Need tips on Battle Master build
So I rolled a Thiefling Fighter, picked battle master as a sublcass. Lvl 6 right now.
I also picked dual weapon fighting as a feat and my initial specialization, although I'm not sure if I'm getting the most out of Dual weapons. I dropped my sword in a fight and I was using a single long sword and it felt like I was doing more damage. My offhand damage is meager.
Should I respec ? And what do you guys would suggest I do?

I'm playing with 2 of my friends one of which is a two hander barb so I don't want to use two handed weapons since I'd much rather prefer we don't fight over some loot.

dual wielding begs the style, feat, rogue 3, and some kind of warrior class (here, fighter) that gets 2 main hand attacks. At level 8 it all comes together with 4 attacks per round -- before that its 3 attacks at 5th and 2 attacks at level 1. Stacking lots of effects like the acid ring (8 damage with 4 attacks!) in several slots makes a fair bit of damage. That is the gist of it all, stacking + damage toys and landing 4 attacks with hard hitting weapons, preferably each with extra damage like nere's rapier.
Dual Wield Battlemaster... Sounds interesting. My suggestion would be to mulitclass from level 6. Effectively going 8/4 by the end. Levels 7-10 being rogue-thief. 4 attacks starting at level 9 is pretty bonkers.

If you were to go for a dex build with shortwords and daggers you could get your crit range quite high as well. Up to 15 with an elixir.

A dex build wouldn't even need the dual wielding feat to be effective. 2 shortswords already deal the average damage of a greatsword with double the dex bonus from two weapon fighting style. What you would want to do is stack damage riders for big numbers overall. Like hunter's mark from an act 1 bow or helmet. If you want I could throw you an item build together that will let you deal some nice numbers every turn.

Something important to remember is as a martial you don't deal big damage numbers every turn, but you deal a lot of them overall, so "lackluster" damage from your off hand is absolutely ok.

Genuinely, there are plenty of great 2-Handers. A lot of them are around the same strength and there's more than enough for both of you to get one. Even having just a basic +1 or +2 from a store is enough to get really good damage until you can find an upgrade.

I would just go Great Weapon Fighting / Great Weapon Master because it's probably the Fighters highest damage outside of Throwing builds.

Ah ok. Actually not a bad idea. I'm lvl 7 now and I still got my last level as a fighter. Would it still work if I got rogue next level and onwards or should I respec ?

I'm at a point in game where we found 2 reaally good finese weapons I'm like man I should have rolled a dex rogue. But I'll stick with what I have since I rolled a dark elf rogue for my singleplayer playthrough.

Doesn't really matter in which order you take them.

A lot of multi-classing is really best done just re-speccing at 12.

Ya Thief rogue is pretty much a must.

That being said it also works exceedingly well on a barbarian instead of a fighter.
The extra rage damage helps, and things like tiger barbarian are quite good for hitting multiple foes at once.
