Patch 8 ain't coming this year. Stress test is starting in January and whenever that's done, then it'll be released.

If you're not familiar with DND rules the game can be a bit harsh, yeah. Lowering the difficulty and finding some knowledge about the system can help tons! I read that you are having problems with the hold person spell. Not many enemies use it, specially on lower difficulty levels so i assume you are having trouble with a specific fight. Try searching on YT for someone winning the fight, the game is all about using your imagination with your surroundings, and you'll surely get some good ideas by watching how other people do stuff. Good luck!

Easy to think at first. Turn based games are not for the faint of heart. I remember feeling the same way with the Divinity games that BG3 is very similar to. Once you catch on, however, and if you're willing to push through, it becomes better and genuinely enjoyable.

Definitely not a game for everyone though. To be honest, I still can't make it through a half hour of any soulslike without feeling bored and frustrated, so I can sympathize.

I agree, it can be hard sometimes. My last playthrough went well but I still had to lower the difficulty to Explorer for fighting Raphaël in Act 3 and had to cheese Cazador a bit. Play the game in Explorer if Balanced is too hard, it's not a problem, I understand you :) Unless the wannabe chads with their "get good lol you suck noob", I don't have fun when it's too difficult

It can be a very challenging game, especially if you've never played a game with turn-based combat. Even on Explorer it did have its challenges, some fights were really frustrating and required that I change my tactics, maybe even swap out one or two of my companions... and whoever you go up against, make sure to check their weaknesses and exploit those. It makes things a lot easier.
