It is possible and some projects are already cooking up stuff.
Alright great, guess I'll have to curb my patience, thanks.
Currently 7 mods at Nexus under this category.

Most seem to change the storyline of quests in a small way, like changing a bit the questline/dialogue for Astarion and SH.
"Family Legacy" is a new quest introduced in game. That may have been around for a while, prior to the Toolkit, and requires script extender.
"The Game is Afoot" also appears to be a new questline, but doesn't require SE.
Not listed there but "Spelljammer" Mod introduces both new areas and new quests. I've tried it out. I'd wait till it has minimaps for the new areas and icons for all the interactive chars. (They're still working on that.)
"Veilyn the Bloodletter" has unique companion quests, but I can't get it to work. Still very much a "WIP".
Thanks pal, I'll check them out
I'd love to be wrong though, and it'll be cool to see what people do whenever it does happen.
This mod brings this scene to life, and forces you to choose between them.
Halsin Minthara Confrontation

That Larian was planning for them to continue being mutually exclusive may be why they've been so slow to give them separate camp accomodations. I also expect if they went this route and forced an exclusive confrontation, modders would have made mods to nullify this from happening.
(Personally, lately, I've come around to not liking Halsin, if only because I don't like Larian sticking us with two druids, but this is why I think he makes an excellent Shaman once you recruit the other druid. At that point it can make sense to have them in the same active party. Yeah, he's the better shapeshifter - if not bugged by ULC mod - and she's the slightly better spellcaster, but they're still not different ENOUGH from each other.)
Using any of those added quest mods, map mods etc.. will most likely require script extender and have to be installed via sites other then modIO
And it will likely take a year or two at least.
The mod tools are nice but its not magic and takes work.
Spelljammer doesn't require SE. Neither does Veilyn Bloodletter Mod.
However, it seems like to get full access to scripting, map editing, dialogue editing, and quest flag editing, the hacked "moonglasses" tools are needed. There's already been some pretty interesting map edits, most notably the one that radically redoes your rented room at the Elfsong Tavern.
The makers of the Alfira mod made her own new, unique tent for her at all campsites.
