There was no good reason for Larian to not let us create a fully custom party from the beginning.
Even getting Hirelings at lvl 3, you can't customize their race or background.
The only explanation is ego - Larian is doing everything in their power to "force" you to use their Origin characters, whether you like it or not.
The sad part for me, is that I would actually love to play each Origin character as my main - with three other custom characters. I prefer to experience each Origin character's backstory in isolation, without interruption from other characters.
But it's hard to do that when you don't have complete control over the rest of the party.
So dumb that it's the standard for most party based CRPGs....
Male Human Fighter
Male Half-Elf Ranger
Male Elf Magic User
Male Human Cleric
We had so much fun back in the day the 5 of us. I still remember all the character names, armor, vaguely remember the skills.
This companion selection method is a real let-down. I guess I'll have to let it go. The game is ok so far I guess but a lot of the characters suck.
Yeah, human. I'm not interested in playing as an orc, a female dwarf, or a horned devil. We usually only played humans, elves, half-elves, and occasionally someone would pick a dwarf or halfling.
It's like night and day, no disappearing hirelings, easy to bring in and out of the party ... this is how it should be. So OP with custom hirelings you CAN change everything you want.
Adding mods mid-save is generally a bad idea in any game. Sometimes it works, sometimes it REALLY effs with the save.
To each their own and all, just curious as to why. You're already playing magic slinging wizards and champions wielding divine wrath, what's the difference playing a less human race too? And why specifically "female dwarf"?
Step 2: Download Appearance Edit Enhanced from Nexus
Step 3: Edit your companions any way you like.
Step 4: Turn Wyll into a Gnome and name him Sherlock Gnomes.
Step 5: ???
Step 6: Profit
Also, I'd be cautious of Custom Hirelings. But the "adaptation" of the one previously at Nexus, Custom Companions Lite, seems to be working fine.
Thanks for sharing.
I dunno, no special reason. I'd like to play with characters that I like. And, for me, a female dwarf is not interesting to me. Also, the only fighter available was a female elf. Again, not something I would be interested in role-playing as. Usually, if I have a female character in my group I prefer to use them as clerics or magic users. For me, I like my warriors to be manly.
