Want games to work better. Get off Mac.
Runs just fine for me in Sequoia. No lag. And I use a lot of mods. (And this is not exactly a top of the line rig I'm running it on.)
Of course, I can't use the script extender based mods, but this is becoming less and less of an issue as Osiris based Toolkit mods replace them. Also, not the DLL based ones; dunno if there are camera mods that are written without that, but so far no, so it may not be possible for me to use camera mods. SOMETHING is preventing the Bloodletter mod from running on Mac, but it's not either of those issues, and its makers appear not to know, either.
Larian has for reasons that make no sense to me glacially slowed down console approval of mods (it can't be solely for QA as they've "approved" ones that are busted like Secret Scrolls), AND tied approval of Mac mod.io mods to console approval, when there's no earthly reason for it. It's fine. Some I have to still keep manually downloading and updating because there is no reason to wait. It's not a very big deal.
And I can't use the Toolkit. I searched for a way to run it under emulation, but I don't think that will work; it needs a Windows native version of the game present on the same HD to run... oh well.
The last thing probably has me the saddest, but ya know, there's only really one kind of mod nobody's made yet, and while I'd love to get into the kit and see if I can do it myself, I'll keep asking around of modders to see if they can do it. (Transfer weapon properties from one weapon to another.)
That's sad work. Bloodletter Astarion is G.O.A.T'd. Going to run him as a Bloodletter/Gloomstalker.
It's not a mod conflict, the mod doesn't use script extender, or DLLs. However, for reasons they don't know - you CAN start Veilyn as an Origin, but if I do that his model is invisible and the game hangs; OR you can acquire him in the Blighted Village, but that process is also borked and doesn't work, at least not on Macs. (Somebody mentioned it might be because the mod has no info.json file which can cause issues with Macs. Dunno.)
I wish I could run it. Of course, it's very much in a beta state anyway. They're still working on voicing him, and his quests and romance. It's very far from finished. Along the way, I hope they can fix this issue.
Oh, that one. Forgot about the companion mod. Haven't downloaded it yet.
( Before an overzealous moderator gets twitchy, that's a joke, I'm not "attacking" anyone or whatever excuse you want to use to ban me this time. )
Wrong piece of hardware for the task.
I swear Apple intentionally makes it their mission to make gaming a nuisance for their products. Any honest developer will tell you the effort is too great for such a small subset of the audience. The effort vs reward is not worth it for the vast majority of games.
Buy a proper PC or enjoy the handicap Apple places on you. This is no secret and has been the status quo for 20+ years now.
Look, say what you like, but if Apple was TRYING to make their platform inhospitable for gaming, Game Mode wouldn't be one of the hyped features of Sequoia. (rolls eyes).
I do agree porting games to non Intel processor Macs is probably not as easy as it used to be when they used Intel processors. Of course, at that point, they also could dual boot into WIndows. Now, they can only emulate it.
I don't see anyone saying they're TRYING to make it inhospitable for gaming. But they're not trying to make it hospitable for gaming either.
Larian CHOSE to release the game to be playable on a Mac.
That represents a commitment to keep it working for people who paid money in good faith on the understanding they would always be able to play on that platform into the future.
Pretty simple really.
-I've only seen or read of people being able to play the latest patch on the latest version of Sonoma or Sequoia.
-It's running fine for me on Sonoma with an M1 Macbook Pro 2021 model.
-It wouldn't run for me on Ventura. I've not read of anyone getting it to run on any older OS.
