So, Oath of the Crown...
Isn't this subclass kinda ass? I have no experience with the tabletop, but just looking at the list of unique features that it has there, and comparing it to how other variants were implemented... Well, it looks awful.

I mean, I get it thematically speaking. You guard a royal, and sacrifice your life to keep them from being harmed and draw attention away from them. But that just seems like such a lame set of abilities.

Sounds to me like a dedicated "tank" build. Nothing "lame" about that.

What did you expect from a paladin?

They are the Paladins of "De Wae".
They pick a Qwuen to protect, as is their wae.

Good choice for Wyll.

Abilities that are cool and fun, I guess. Every other option seems cooler than this. Oath of the Watchers initiative bonus is cool, Oath of Glory's mobility bonus is cool... Even Redemption, which is basically the same as this, but better.

I just want Oath of the Watchers to come to mod.io. I could even use it now, but then it will do the usual thing for most Nexus mods of not allowing any other subclass options. And I occasionally want to use Oath of Resolve, the new homebrew one.

By the sound of that it seems to me you actually want to play Illrigger class.

BTW, it took me downloading several things to FINALLY get the new (2024) version of Circle of the Sea and Circle of Stars to coexist as subclass options.

But after all that rigmarole, I tried to use its Starry Archer form, and my game crashed.

Feh. I'll wait for Larian's version. It really wasn't worth it, I kinda like Circle of the Sea better. 2024 Druid (which includes it) brings some other things like Starry Wisp. Let me unleash angry storms at my enemies, instead of turning into a constellation that can shoot a radiant arrow. It's the main thing I wanted to see, and it didn't work.

I feel like 90% of the appeal of different oaths is so that you don't feel forced to go with specific actions to avoid breaking your character's oath and ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ up your class.

Paladins are so annoying to play because you have to commit yourself to the oath or become an oathbreaker because you didn't click the right option in the dialogue branch.

It's called "Create holy water". A Crown Paladins only spell.
Paladins should get Improved Divine Smite earlier, like level nine.
