New Upcoming Subclasses
I am very surprised to see a content update in form of new subclasses

It is probably the least expected thing after it has been announced that we are closing in to the final patches. The photo mode - no surprise. Crossplay - long awaited. But subclasses?

'Guess there is still new reason to replay the game. :spacehamster:

Likewise surprised.

I would have preferred Rune Knight over Arcane Archer, and Aberrant Mind over Shadow Sorcerer, but *shrug*.

Ayooo! That's awesome.

Here's to tempered hopes they might, periodically do this. Not sure how the "rights" works out though with WotC and what not. Like, does Larian have to check with them to add anything to the game? I know one reason they wanted to stop with BG3 aside from burnout was WotC being obnoxious to work with.

Anyway, that's epic. I love it. I was about to start a modded playthrough with subclasses for the first time, but maybe I'll hold off.

Druid class seems kinda meh but the rest look neat. Especially the Hexblade and Shadow Magic ones.

No details about their exact licence are known. It's possible they got a all inklusive licence, but it's more likely that their licence only covers certain parts. they might have had the licence for those subclasses still laying around, and just didn't get around to implementing them, so no new negotiations would have been neccessary.
But we can only guess in the end.
I personally won't get my hopes up to much. Chances are only a small team is still maintaining BG3, while the bulk of the team is already working on their next title, whatever that might be. This would be crazy little additions for 400+ people working on that patch...
So there might still be a couple of smaller patches like this before they release a definitive edition maybe next year or so, but I wouldn't expect to much more after that. At least I would be very surprised by that...

Here's hoping they add some cantrips and spells to the game with the new classes, too. Like the blade cantrips for the Bladesinger and others.

Druid of the Stars <3 I wonder if we can join the playtest on GOG too, but then again, maybe I should just wait

The update post does say to expect new cantrips, which makes a lot of sense with Bladesinger being in.

Which would improve Arcane Trickster and Eldritch Knight by association.

Dang, I missed that. Makes sense, though. Here's hoping to get Absorb elements, too!

I'm disappointed its Hexblade when Undead is already a subclass of an enemy in the game. I've played both classes up to tier 2 and Undead into tier 3 and of the Two undead is LEAGUES more fun than Hexblade. I also feel Hexblade's niche is filled with pact of the blade and its level 6 feature is kinda lousy and doesn't fit with the hexblade's kit at all. I mean an extra body isn't bad, but its just random when every other feature of the class has to do with being a gish.

I know people like Hexblade but I feel most y'all haven't played it past level 1 as a dip...

What I really hope is they rebalance a lot of the invocations and add more. That'll do far more to change up the Warlock's playthroughs than adding a hexblade.

I feel this. I'd have preferred Undead over Hexblade and Fey Wanderer over Swarmkeeper. But new subclasses are new subclasses.

I'm hoping they rebalance some of the invocations and feats.

Well if they're gonna go to the trouble of adding Hexblade to the game, there is no way they aren't adding Eldritch Smite.

Only question is if they make it an invocation, in which case might as well add some more, or they might turn it into a class feature, in which case who knows if they touch the invocations.

Well this is a pleasant surprise, I was sure that there wouldn't be any more content added to the game. And it seems that they aren't half-assing it, either, based on the unique animations and features.
Larian doesn't half-ass anything. "Full-ass or take your ass home" is probably their motto.

Seems like, so there is still hope we gettin more Minthara Content ... right? RIGHT?! *cope*

Really hope we get a mod that plays on loop the Jackie Chan - Drunken Master (1978) OST - 8 Drunken Gods. Drunken Master here i come!

New Subclasses? AWESOME! This gives me hope for all sorts of cool stuff in the near future (fingers crossed for Divine soul for Sorcerer someday.)

Already a mod that does divine soul sorcerer fine.

There is already a mod that adds it so them doing so likely won't take too much work.
As for if they tweak it & how much IDK, not like the game follows the table top directly and gives us opportunity attack when someone stands up so its not nearly as broken here.

This more or less.

Coming from older editions its sad how Arcane archer used to be so good in 3.x and how much it sucks in 5e.
