problem with text-chat mod

As a rather casual non-programmer, I am quite overwhelmed by instructions for the mod in title.
Am I missing something? As far as im aware, leaving the mod active in the ingame MM and opening the session, should welcome me with UI richer by chat box - somewhere on the screen?
Does it only work for multiplayer, or am i just getting everything wrong?
