Question about Gontr Mael...
When you use it's Celestial Haste, do you need keep Gontr Mael as the active weapon to maintain the Haste effect, or can you quick switch to your melee slot and keep it active?

Yes you can switch. You don't even need to make it your active weapon to cast it, AFAIK.

Although it is a concentration spell, so what you can't do is lose concentration.

^^^^^ Which is weird, given that on every other item, you remove the item, you lose the buff / spell...

No, we weren't talking about switching out the weapon, just using a melee weapon while having Gontr Mael equipped.

Although I'm not sure if switching out Gontr Mael would break the Haste.

The difference between Gontr Mael and those buffs that break that you are talking about is that this is a 5 turn (IIRC) spell, not something that lasts until Short/Long Rest. Those buffs end if you switch out the item that gave the buff.

It will.
