Okay to become full Mind Flayer instead of Orpheus - if so can I use equipment?
The subject is self explanatory lol

After freeing Orpheus, is it a viable course to have my main character become a mind flayer, or should it definitely be Orpheus who does?

If it's okay for my main to become full Mind Flayer, can I then make use of any equipment, armor, weapons, potions, abilities etc?

Thanks in advance...

Lore wise you don't really become anything.
When a mind flayer transformation happens the host's soul & body are destroyed.

The mind flayer has their memories (because it ate their brain) but it isn't them.

As for equipment & abilities ya you can still use it all.

For my chars, it's never good to become a Mindflayer. I think it depends which option you prefer. You don't need to in order to destroy the Elder Brain.

You can still use your gear... but be aware that your ability scores will change, so that STR/DEX/CON will be modest but INT/WIS/CHA high. Keep that in mind regarding how it'll affect you based on your class.

Thank you all... so you do need maybe Orpheus as Mind Flayer, to cast Karsus' Compulsion in the final sequence, right? I mean, only the full mind flayer can cast that??

And I see what you guys mean as far as lore... though it's not quite as bad as the Emperor assimilating Orpheus by eating his brain, I'd think!

If you side with Orpheus over the Emperor, then you do need a full illithid, and there are three possibilities: you, Orpheus, or Karlach.
