Hotfix 29 for Mac?
Patch 7 decimated my gameplay experience on Mac, and I was hoping Hotfix 28 would fix the terrible frame rate and lag issues. I asked for tips from the community but had yet to find a solution. Does anyone know if another Hotfix is on the way or if there is a new discovery for the Mac version post Patch 7?

I searched the web for solutions and there are just ♥♥♥♥♥♥ not reliable ones.
It's a shame that the game is not playable for macOS users for over a month now without further public communication from Larian....
I made a bugreport short after the update came out. The support said, they are aware.

I also submitted a report a month ago. I really want to play this game again.

If you cannot update your OS, you can still rollback to the last working version of the game.
Many did that already to ensure their mods still work, and there is not a loss at all for anyone affected.

If you search the forums, you can find workarounds to make the latest versions work. Shared for you by fellow Mac players.

I have the most up to date OS, and don’t run Mods. Guess I need to figure out how to roll back to Patch 6.

I hope they are coming with patch soon. It has become unplayable. I had a huge gap this year on playing the game...and when i restarted few days ago i was shocked! I tried all possible settings, nothing helped! I even went to the extent to think about upgrading my M2 MAX (32GB / 38 GPU) to an M4 MAX thinking that somehow my "old" laptop is at fault... Luckily i kept searching and found out they totally destroyed MAC version with their latest patches.

It's been busted since they released the patch. I submitted a ticket months ago and Larian never responded.

Only people that are running OS15 have been able to launch.

I've tried all the 'solutions' listed in the Larian FAQ. None work.

I'm certain it has to do with Security & Privacy - BG3 does not appear in the pref to allow access to files and folders. I'm willing to wager it can't get access to the Doc folder and that is why you are getting an inst-crash.

It's wild that BG3 has been really stable on Mac for three plus years and now they release a patch where it won't even launch.

Some tech support ey?

It's not you. It's them.

Your M2 should run the game quite well. I'm running BG3 on a 2021 M1 and it works fine.

On an M4 I've read it runs BG3 at 100fps lol. Look Ma! No video card! :)

I have no problems on my M2 machine, running the game under Sequoia.

Now, I can't use the Toolkit, I still can't use script extender based mods, for some bizarre reason mods that should be fine for Mac users have to wait on the glacial approval process for console (no biggie, I just get them outside of the ingame manager, but), and that cool new Bloodletter companion mod doesn't run on Macs, but the game runs just fine, as have the dozens of mods I'm using.

I'm running Sonoma 14.7 and don't have any issues. Mac Studio M1 Max

That's good news. I've not heard of anyone running on Sonoma. I can update to that OS. Not going upto OS 15 though.

Yup, OS 15 works, but many people can't update to that. I would lose access to too much software that isn't compatible with it yet.

On the official forums, under Technical Support subforum, I see a lot of Mac players in a big Tech Support thread complaining about performance issues (again seems to plague pre-Sequoia/OS 15), but not about not being able to play the game at all. (Though I have seen some Mac players saying so here at Steam. I believe THAT issue may indeed have to do with permissions in the OS.)
kneudel Nov 20, 2024 @ 2:45pm
There is a workaround for the issue you getting a frame rate drop after some time you playing the game.
After the game is launched you can do a terminal command to set the priority of the bg3 process to the top.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DV1HOsopEKo

you can save this as Shortcut on you Mac. See the video for more instructions. Video description contains a download for a predefined shortcut

Now It works well for my settings and the frame rate stays stable without restarting the game or reload a save game.

M1Max
Resolution: 3840x1620
All Setting to Medium
Sharpness: almost 100%
FSR 1.0 : Ultraquality
Anit Alasing: TAA

50-60 FPS and good looking.
