Companions won't wear camp clothes in camp
Camp clothes are set to only show at camp for all characters. They will only wear their armor in camp.

That switch is a bit misleading. It doesn't mean camp clothes at camp at all times, it means armor outside camp and in camp during the day, camp clothes during the night. When you switch it, then the character/s will wear camp clothes at all times inside and outside of camp.

AFAIK with default clothing settings they will change into their camp clothing only after you choose "long rest".
