This or Black Myth Wukong?
Wukong has the most overwhelmingly positive reviews on Steam, but the reviews on OpenCritic and MetaCritic are just ok for it. I always check different sources before buying, since Steam reviews often reflect community sentiment rather than purely objective feedback.

BG3 seems to be more universally loved even outside of Steam reviews, why is that?

Yes, they're different games, but I enjoy both genres and just want one game for now.

I havent played Wukong yet, so I don't know.

But Idiots like sweet baby inc and such threatened the developer to do a smear campaign if they don't get payed to give advice how to ruin their game with woke ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥. And then bad articles for example from IGN with lies and false accusations about the developer appeared. I guess metacritic and open critic is influenced by those directly or indirectly.

While I expect that most steam reviews are real reviews by real players.

That's it, take your conclusion.

On the other hand this game has plenty of woke ♥♥♥♥, like the typical strong women, gender madness (female can have ♥♥♥♥♥ and so on), pronouns, gay sex and so on...

But even despite all that (which makes it much worse than it could be). The game is still a good game.

Well made story, plenty of decisions that make differences, interesting deep combat (might not be for everyone, because round based), good graphics, nice game to play with others, it's definitely what AAA once stood for...

In the end it's up to you.

I myself had fun with Baldurs gate for the most part (but I liked Divinity Original Sin which is similar, too) and I am interested in Wu Kong, too and will definetly not care what some stupid critics / game journalists write but at the moment there are some other games I want to finish first.

No one can make this decision for you, we have no idea whether you want a turn-based cRPG more than you want an action RPG. It's like trying to compare DOOM and Civilization.

Personally speaking? I went for bg3. There are TONS of things to discover in this game (mechanics included)

baldur's gate 3 for sure

Right now, I’m leaning toward Baldur's Gate 3. It’s strange, Wukong has the most overwhelmingly positive reviews on Steam, but when you look at Metacritic and OpenCritic, it’s not even in the top 20 even during the release year, low 80% range. Which is not a bad score, but that doesn't line up with the amount of positive reviews on Steam I guess. And it doesn't have to. I'm just worried that maybe an Ok game got popular only because it was somehow trending, kind of like how Palworld got a lot of hype. BG3, on the other hand, seems like it’s consistently well-regarded everywhere as a game, with mostly almost/perfect 100% scores.

If I were you, I would consider both as suspicious and hardly anything on the internet trustworthy. What you need is a friend who has the same taste as you and can give you a recommendation on the game they already played, whether this or that. Not game magazine reviews who get paid for their relationships with publishers nor gamers who are unexperienced to review something.

By the end of the day it is your subjective taste which should set the bar, not some parameters mixed up with someone elses prejudices and tastes.

Ask differently to get better feedback like, name five games of each genre you like and three games you played from that genre you disliked - that way others can reply to you with examples like how I compare Baldur's Gate 3 with Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic.

The only "smear campaign" I have seen is a year of people posting in this forum that "BG3 is woke and makes me be gay".

A significant portion of Steam reviews for Wukong are from Chinese customers who finally have a pretry good game they can rally behind based on one of the most popular pieces of literature from the region that isn't live service microtransaction filled nonsense, so there's that.

This, for sure.

Two fundamentally different games. Buy the game that belongs in the genre you want to play.

A ferrari or a lamborghini? two very different cars, you can't compare them. Buy both

If you want the biggest bang for your buck and probably (depending on how long your gaming sessions go) have fun for the next years to come. Buy BG3

It's weird how there was never any evidence of what Thomas was talking about being real. They just run away when you ask to see it.

Actually, it's not weird at all.

As for the topic, yeah, between underserved customers and culture warriors, there isn't too much mystery about the scores. My understanding is that BMW is a decent game,. I'll never know myself, since the last thing I need in my life is another soulslike.

Deciding factor for me if I'm debating whether or onot to buy a game is to watch gameplay of it. Maybe that will help you, too.
