Pick one from the section Class Builds for Starters

I recommend either the sorcerer or the bard suggestion, but either works fine as you get a party of companions which you can have to have any classes you want for your mix matched party

Pfft. That is like asking what kind of music you like. But of all the ones I have played, the Fighter ( esp. Champion subclass ) is the simplest and easiest to play. But some players do not like it being that simple. Even beginners.

Wild Magic Sorcerer

first time? warlock is always fun to do you have cool spells and can do melee with hex blade and what not, but as of right now wild magic barb is super fun lmao

I recommend Bard.

They're a skill monkey giving you bonuses in all sorts of checks. Proficiency in social skills (Persuasion, Deception, Intimidation) in particular will help you get best outcomes from social interactions.

Remember to pick the Friends cantrip as well. It's the best spell in the game, IMO.

For a beginner I would recommend a martial class like Fighter. Ranger can be good too, if you want a little more to do than "I attack".

1. Storm Sorcerer (take Twin Cast and Hasten Spell),
2. Warlock (Eldritch Blast + Agonizing Blast),
3. Storm Sorcerer + Warlock (Sorcerer => Warlock => Warlock => Sorcerer => Sorcerer => finish with 2-4 Warlock, rest Sorcerer)
4. Paladin (pure or Multi classed with Sorcerer / Warlock / Bard),
5. War Cleric (Spirit Weapon, Spirit Guardian, Multiclass with a Melee Class that has Extra Attack),
6. College of Sword Bard (pure or multi classed with a Charisma based class if doing Dual Wield then go 3x Thief, Melee, Ranged and Support)
7. Pure Fighter (any Subclass, especially when you want to Throw Stuff around, then preferably Eldritch Knight). But can be a bit boring.
8. Early levels: Circle of the Moon Druid

Those are strong, easy, beginner choices and most of them allow for additional fun spells or combos.

Stay away from:
1. Wizard, most of the stuff Wizards can do anyone else can do better (especially Sorcerer, with 2 non beginner friendly exceptions).
2. Ranger, besides one subclass it doesnt provide anything good and Fighters (or some builds on other classes like the Bard) are often the better Rangers... Also its not that much less boring than a fighter.
3. Rogue besides 3x Thief (if you can make good use of Bonus Actions like when dual wielding stuff) this class works only when you play hide and seek and attack from shadows or prepare your fights, its annoying and not beginner friendly.
4. Monk, not beginner friendly and odd in several ways.
5. Other clerics (besides War and if you need a Healer Life or a few levels in Light / Tempest when Multi Classing)
6. Druid (as melee, besides the early levels, they are worse than other Melee classes, as spell caster they are worse than other spell casters)
7. Barbarian (good as long as you have Rage, bad otherwise, not beginner friendly and usually even in not that much stronger than Fighter or Paladin for example, maybe even worse if not considering optimal situations)

Btw. you can respec Origin Characters (and change their class completely, but not background story, race and appearance).

Can't answer about fun. That's 100% subjective.

But a newbie once asked me this question, and I designed this party to answer.

I particularly like low-effort builds that don't need consumables, but if you want to incorporate that aspect of the game, they can really elevate your power (way too much to my liking - unfun for me, but maybe fun for you).

There are several guides on Storm Sorcerer on YT....currently I'm playing a Ice Queen Sorcerer
but I'm mixing it with Storm elements.....having a lot of fun!

In my opinion, paladin/warlock (pact of the blade) is a fun build, it allows you to dump strength and dex (if you take paladin first and use heavy armor), if you distribute the levels so paladin gets 7 and warlock gets 5, you get three attacks per round, 2 third level divine smites per short rest, and the best cantrip in the game in eldritch blast, which fixes the problems with paladin. you just might want to start with warlock and reclass at level 4, to get better proficiencies, without deciding to start the game unable to hold your own in combat
Druid or Bard.

as a beginner, the easiest class is probably either a fighter or a barbarian.
Most fun however is subjective, but if you want to a VARIETY of things in combat, and have OPTIONS to do different stuff, then a hybrid caster/warrior of some sort is more fun (to ME) because you can pick from a range of things to do. A strength monk is also very easy, but a little less durable (not quite a glass cannon, but in between leaning toward glass).

Also, this is a 4 person PARTY of characters and you control all 4. That means that even if you pick an easy class like a fighter, you will STILL need to know how to get the most out of the other 3, and at least two of those should have SOME SPELLS. So you need to learn the art of casting spells and managing resources even if your own main character is not into that.

a well balanced party can come from multi-classing or just picking some basic classes and sticking with it, but at the end of the day, IMHO, you need a mix of :
- at least 1 user of heavy armor (cleric, some domains, warrior types (not barbarian))
- at least 1 caster of strong arcane (big damage) spells (bard and warlock count, wizard and sorcerer are the main ones here)
- at least 1 caster of buff/debuff type spells (bard and clerics, druids to an extent)
- at least 1 person who can disable traps and open locks (slight of hand skill, available in background for custom main character, or many classes (ranger, rogue, bard for sure)
- at least 1 archer/ranged character (warlock counts)
- at least 2 medium armor and shield users (not required, but it helps)

There are a ton of ways to get that mix, and its not the only mix that works, its just a recommendation for a 'middle of the road' functional party.

The early game allies you find can be reset to any class, but their defaults are rogue, fighter, barbarian, cleric, wizard, warlock (choose 3, you can swap them in and out as necessary)

I mean, you can do the game on balanced with 4 fighters, using scrolls and items for magic effects and potions for healing. Its not even a 'bad' way, long as one of them can pick a lock you are good to go, but ... I could write an essay on why not to do that (ranging from boring to lack of options) yet it would work. So its pretty hard to make something that can't get the job done. Pick what sounds FUN, and trust that you will be able to succeed with it, as the game provides all you could want to be successful. If what you choose is not working out, you can change it easily after just a short time in the game.

Odd man out it seems.

Id suggest a non magic class. Fighter, Barbarian, Rouge, Paladin, or Monk for someone new to BG3 or DnD in general.

Having to manage spell slots and sorting through what spells to take in the first place is rather overwhelming if you don't already know what you're doing. Magic classes will need to long rest a LOT more as you will run out of spell slots. Not a problem with DnD (depending on your DM and story), but in BG3 long rests take food and sooner or later it will run out. Magic is VERY strong, so I understand the limits. But it's still something that's gonna be a bit much to manage for new players.

Melee classes though. Get stick, hit dude with stick, with some extra management added in after you gain some levels and after you learn more about the game

I really enjoy open-hand monk. Look up some builds for it.
