Freeing Nightlong, Killing Ketheric, and the Apostle of Myrkul
So in the final battle with Ketheric in the Mind Flayer Colony, I managed to free the Nightlong, kill him (Ketheric).

But this was not before she, The Nightlong, fell at the very last moment before his death.

Does the Apostle of Myrkul only appear because The Nightlong died in the process? Otherwise how do you possibly kill him?

My characters are level 7 on Tactician.

Should I flee the Apostle battle so long as The Nightlong lives?

Again, does the Apostle even appear if Ketheric dies while Nightlong still lives?

Thanks in advance, for any advice...

I do not think you can flee. The apostle appears because of Ketheric. Do not worry about the Nightsong. Those divine beings do not die that easily and will return

You won't be able to flee the battle. The Apostle itself will always appear once Ketheric has been dealt with, either in combat by besting Ketheric or persuading him via dialogue.

The latter just skips the first phase of the encounter.

Should I persuade Ketheric, and then try to kill the Apostle, if he's alone at that point?

I'm just wondering, how can I possibly get through the battle, as I cannot cross into Baldur's Gate without killing Ketheric?

Is 7th level just too low at this point? I should add I play on Tactician.

Level seven sounds like normal for that point. Tactician is not easy, so you need to excersise full potential of your party. If the battle remains too hard, it might be a build issue where you should respec for better chances.

The battle is not that hard, as long as you are able to make the first strike, especially against the apostle's minions. From there on it is mostly to endure the battle.

In doubt, share your character sheets for tips

My Battle Plan for Kethric / Apostle =

I'm Level 9 at this point. I use a Monk with Step of wind Dash to get to Nightsong and free her. Tav Swords BArd / Fighter with Smokepower Arrows to kill teh grouped Intellect Devourers and then another for the Necrites on the other side. Stealth Archer (Ranger / Rogue) to Nuke Kethric, another Swords Bard to kill the Mindflayer and finish Ketheric.

Apostle appears, Nightsong batters it. I unload with all ranged attack and Action Surge, and sometimes if its not quite dead, send the Monk in with Topple attack. Dead apostle.

Wow, that sounds like some extreme strategy!

So where do you find the rules for multi classing, to plan... do you use the BG3 Wiki? I don't know of any rules guide that comes with the game.

So do you like run through the game repeatedly, to develop strategies?

Since I'm on my first run-through, should I play balanced at least? I've had success on tactician up until now.

Oh btw, don't you need to pass into Baldur's gate to find smoke powder arrows?

Before the fight you can make a tight circle of your companion and throw a potion of necrotic resistance in the middle so they all share the buff. it will halve the damage of myrkul.

depending on how you treated ketheric in your previous encounter you can try to convince him to surrender and skip the first part of the fight, it will save you resources.

I usually have my priest just use Calm emotion and sanctuary for that part so nobody can get frightened. if you can keep him bone chilled with either the doom hammer or bone chill he will not be able to heal. Doom hammer is doubly efficient in that sense since myrkul is weak to bludgeoning damage.

If you can't chill myrkul make sure you have someone dedicated to clearing all the adds.

No the Apostle of Myrkul always appears. Even if you convince Kethoric to off himself. Through persuasion check. That only appears if you did the checks when you speak with him on the roof before Nightsong comes in to confront him. Its a 2 phase boss fight.

yea if you have misty step, you can free nightsong in 1 round. Then focus fire that aggravating mind flayer and get into position to take out the bone thing. The fight literally lasted 3 rounds for me last time I did it, first round was as stated free aylin & kill the mindflayer (which was positioned badly so it lived until partway into round 2 and knocked a couple of us loopy). Then just focus fired the boss and everything else dies for free. Boss took 2 big hits from aylin and 4 from my archer, monk closed the deal. Didn't even get a shot off with gale. Level 7 is a bit off though, did you skip the whole act? I was level 9.5 here.

A potion, spell, or ring of invisibility allows you to just walk up to her and free her before combat even starts.
