Nyah, he's talking about Basic D&D, before 1E. Dwarves, Elves and Halflings, while being different races, were actually Classes...
If you remember when races were classes, you're likely old af - welcome to the club lol.
And to contribute to the original topic - The medium armor proficiency is a pretty major advantage worth building around. The +1 HP from “dwarven toughness” can be nice for some added tackiness as well. Like - Dragonblood Sorceror to double dip on + HP bonuses with free medium armor.
It also makes the dwarven hireling ideal as a warding bond source. Damage mitigation armor (like the adamantine armor) stacks with the damage resistance of warding bond as well…
