I think it is mostly true for the US, but not so much in Europe tbh.
This is also why you see some people not caring about it and others go ravidly against it (because of cultural bias)
But lets just be happy that we get a game that does not seem to compromise authencity and ideas, because of not having to get restricted like something as silly as age rating.

BG3 will last a long time. And if not to one who is 16 today, they can sell it 2/5 years later to the same person; and many more who are adults today; if it is epic enough, as the realism of production will add to it.
Launch sales is past, and Larian seems determined and smart enough to go for doing the rest of the story right, without high level of immediate marketing concerns. This was proven to be working very well in DA series and BG 3 has already reached that level.
What I wouldn't want to see would however be, is their budget and energy being stretched by length of such scenes. Because they are supposed to be only complimentary, at a length that will not allow a loss of focus yet reinforcing the feelings of the audience(in this case the player) towards the story. But whoever is the producer seems to be a good job at balancing those so far, so I am not very concerned.
Regardless,
@OP your opinion's condescending expression, mixing up this masterpiece with porno(kekw) is ridicilous and worthless. And anybody mature enough can see your main stream originating teary finger pointing. Worry not, BG gamers are not like those idiots you are getting inspired from. As one can simply not do "art" like BG3 with petty yet bloated concerns of mainstream.
And personally, I am very happy that they are following BG I&II example in this context, despite your ilk.
i don't think it's cringe. But how some people act towards romance in video games is pretty cringe. Some people act like the most important thing in a game is the romance.
My problem with romance in video games as a whole, is that the love story aspect is ♥♥♥♥ most of the time, because the game tries to rush chemistry between characters to keep pace with progression.
That said... Instead of rushing chemistry of random characters, they could allow you to create your partner or something and make it function like any other NPC. Party or interact with them... If such was optional, it would be taken for granted.
I can't even begin to imagine how intense their harm, capture or demise could get story wise after a little while.
This ♥♥♥♥ is tame anyway compared to what you can find online.
At least there's some build up too. I remember in DAI, I was romancing a character and then all of a sudden I saw tits not realizing it was a romance scene! In this game... at least you KNOW it's a "romance" scene. 😏
It is the most important thing. 😏
Hey! Romance is part of real life! If my character is open to romance, I'd like to rp that aspect!
Yeah it can be pretty cringe, but I like that it's there regardless! Romances like the one with Jack or Miranda in the Mass Effect series are CRUCIAL to understanding their character beyond the superficial. It's very intriguing for people like me who like the social element of fantasy worlds and roleplaying!
Larian is VERY much catering to my demographic (check out their twitter right now with Astarion) and I will buy several copies of the game for friends if I enjoy it enough. And romance is a big seller for me. I did the same with the Mass Effect series.
I'm all for increasing sex and romance in any game that wants to include it, but only if technology allows developers to do it in a way that doesn't come across as cringey. It needs to be more realistic.
yeah because DnD is known for its realism lol
I'm talking about the weird, awkward animations or the cut corners that developers take for ratings or other reasons.
If you're going to do sex or romance, do it right, or not at all. Either go all the way, make it erotic, make it fun - or just skip it. Cringe is the worst path to take.
I have hope for BG3 though - if they continue to clean up the animation, this could be good. I just hope we get scenes with custom characters (because if we choose not to run with any origin characters, who are we supposed to 'romance'?)
What about this then

PEGI 16
I mean.. if that was the standard, then just about any game depicting violence (no matter the grahphics or realism) should be +16
If we factor in how most mature games is, then obviously they should be +18 (including this one) by those standards.
If you ask me personally, then I think most of the games that have a similar level as BG3, should be at +16. The reason games with sexual content or even profane language often do get +18 is because of cultural bias.. from a logical standpoint it does not make any sense, even less so if we think about what a 16 year old could watch (in terms of movies)
But again.. it does not matter at all, mainly because this games target audience is primarily above 18 and those that are not will get it anyway (nobody cares and since its digital, nobody restricts anyway)
This is not a game that will be sold a lot in physical forms, nor is it a game that will feature in the flow TV or even streaming services as advertisement.. Most that are interested in this game already know about it, those that are not will hear or see it on various platforms anyway (even if they are 16)
But lets think about something positive and fun instead

The question of it being done well or not makes more sense to me as the people who care more than I about it can help put in their two cents and hopefully make the game a bit better if the scenes/romance leading up to it could be improved. Though I imagine there are a wide variety of opinions on how it could be 'better'.
