Removing my own custom character from the party

So me and my gf are playing the game and are loving it so far. We both have each a custom character and fill the rest of the party with two other origin characters. We were worried we could only bring two of them with us so I was thinking about leaving my own custom char at the camp (I am the master of the game session) and take two origins char with me while my gf takes her own custom char and one origin char with her.

Could it be done? I know I can save her custom character at the Wither's Wardrobe while she is not playing with me but I haven't read anything about leaving my own, or both of ours, custom characters and having a party full or origin ones.

No, the host's custom character is essentially the main character. You need Tav in your party.

you can technically be any player character.

just bring the other pc out of the closet, switch to them and talk to your original character.
