Have fun.
I'm currently trying high frequency longrest run (with darkurge and honor difficulty as additional factors), which means i've:
- longrested after picking up shadowheart,
- then again after passing the intellect devourers,
- then picked up astaron, dealt with the injured mindflayer and picked up gale, then longrested again at the top of the cliffs,
- then dealt with the ruin, then longrested again at the cliffs,
- then picked up laezel, triggered the grove intro, then longrested again inside.
throughout all those longrests, i've experienced character development i've never seen before meted out at a decent pace. i'm concluding the actual story (and thus a decent sense of pacing) is locked behind longrests (in which you chat to them all before you go to sleep, so its not just cutscenes)
so those five longrests by the time you enter the grove served the story very well. i did try to do more, but seemed like only five, up to that point, was necessary to keep the pace.
TBH, some I never would have found without the wiki and guides, but I definitely enjoyed the ones I just stumbled across by accident and exploration.
