Is it just me or is the BG3 community kind of hostile towards new players?
I don't know if maybe this is just my personal experience or if I'm being a snowflake but I feel like the BG3 community is pretty hostile when it comes to new players, take me for example, I'm a total newbie when it comes to BG3, only recently started to play it, never played DnD before (Both DnD games on PC/console and the table top game itself), and of course needless to say that I'm a dumbass that was struggling with the easiest and most obvious puzzles (I'm not really a fan of games that require you to solve things, I'm mostly a fan of games that solely focus on the story rather than the puzzles or combat itself), so of course my best bet was to go on forums to ask people who know way more than me in this game about how to solve or do certain things, and my gods, every person's reply just felt very condescending or sometimes even blatantly insulting me and calling me a moron for not being able to solve an obvious puzzle like I get it, I'm an idiot, but you can't blame me since this is my first time ever playing the game, is it just me being the unluckiest bastard on earth or did anyone else have similar experiences with not being very welcome as a new player/fan? Because it just really discouraged me from engaging in the community.

What you're looking for is a Visual Novel not an RPG, While both have stories they are entirely different types of games. RPG's are all about puzzles and "solving things" be it a combat encounter, a magic door that can be only opened by figuring out a riddle or even just your characters build. I think you misunderstood the kind of game BG3 is, DnD by definition is a game about "solving things".

When you make your game woke -> you get a very toxic community. As simple, as that.
True, popular/woke games attract a lot of haters who can't just ♥♥♥♥ off and go play things they enjoy. Makes me wish Steam mods were a bit more liberal with the use of the ban hammer and permanently banned all these people who do nothing but spread hate on popular/woke games' forums.

Define "woke"

Considering the US is about to fight itself over these very issues, it shouldn't be surprising anymore. Steam mods censoring discourse on this exacerbates the issue further.
Ma'am, this is a video game forum.

snarky comment. nonsensical retort.

Classic Reddit-tier response but it doesn't address the point.

We're going to actually sit here and pretend like woke idealists haven't been ruining media for nearly 10 years now. Wild. Absolutely wild.

What I love the most is you lumping popular and woke together. So you KNOW that you guys have infected everything with this crap, right? So then you understand why it's slowly looking like your unending streak of trash can get very annoying, right?

I recently wrote a post that I thought was really positive and a sort of thank you to Larian for their passion.

98% of the responses were bickering. Six pages of it. And all I’d contributed was the original post, after which I basically just sat back and watched them rip each other apart.

To be perfectly honest, I’d anticipated it, and I’ve been engaging much less on gaming forums lately, especially Steam’s, for my own mental health. Eventually I won’t log into them at all. But the thought came to me to share something that was important to me, mostly for folks at Larian to read, and for anyone who needed some positivity in their life at that moment.

I couldn’t have written a more positive post, and yet the toxic sludge flowed.

There are a lot of people in the gaming community now — a lot more than in my heyday of the 90s and 00s — who are so infected with negativity that it’s become their source of sustenance.

After a while it starts to feel like I’m standing near a source of radiation. Sickening.

virtue signaling isnt exactly the "positivity" people claim it to be, nothing wrong with being positive but pretentious and disingenuous spam is just as much toxic waste as the next troll thread.
its like reading a youtube comment section, searching for validation with virtue signalling just isnt healthy

Like I said: sickening.

Yeah, I remember your thread. You wrote it on a bad day when most of the trolls that reside here were unbanned. It's just bad luck; most of the people here are nice. You just encountered the anti-woke imbecile and another one who has been trashing the game for 3 years (EA) and never moved on with his life. If anything, you can feel sad for them—being stuck here mustn't be a pleasant thing.
Personally, they are all on my block list. The best thing to do is not even click on the "read option" to see their posts (it's not like you're going to learn anything). Also, don't hesitate to report them. A lot of them have already received permanent bans. The mods are a little slow with it, but they are getting there.

I hope you enjoy the game. See ya!

Oh, the irony.

As Marmotty already said, the best way to deal with undesireables, is to either block them and avoid them like the plague, or keep reporting them, if they're startng to devolve into hateful commentary or alike, and let Mods do what they're suppossed to do.

It's always a sad thing to see when forums and/or threads are always getting derailed as well as filled with any kind of negativity because some people feel the need to bring everyone - or most of them - down to their "level" and trying to ruin something for others out of spite or entirely different reasons.

To each their own, obviously but man. If you dislike something so bad, do yourself a favor, move on to something you do actually enjoy - and if that something is spreading negativity 24/7, you might want to get that fixed.

Some time ago, there was a thread about "Things You Didn't Know" made by a great guy. I'm thinking it could help the OP.
Do you, by any chance, know where to find this thread? I tried looking for it for an hour but couldn't find it.
