Not Having A Level Editor Is Larian's Biggest Mistake
A level editor would sell millions more copies and extend the game's lifespan for many years.

Too bad, so sad.

We actually do, as per CU28. Besides, it was already confirmed many times that a level editor will not find it's way to BG3.

A level editor has been in games before. Actually designing a level that would be anything that would be half way decent would take 100s if not thousands of hours. Not very good stuff has come from those games that did it. People are just not talented enough in the several disciplines necessary to make a decent level. Maybe a team of people. Its happened a few times in a few games. But I doubt a level editor would make a whole lot of difference.

Yeah if you ignore NWN1,2, Morrowind, Oblivion, Skyrim, Fallout 2(!)...

There is more than enough talent out there.

lol..I said a few games and done by a team of people. Did you pay attention. ..even them there is like 1 a piece for those games. NO one person is going to do it. And also years after those games where released.

I agree with the title, but on the other hand, Hasbro and WOTC being who they are, community content created via some level editor akin to the Bioware Aurora engine (which helped create thousands of modules for Neverwinter Nights) would likely cause a meltdown that makes Bethesda's paid modules controversy seem like child's play.

Let sleeping dogs lie...

Level editors are good for meh games. For really good games they'd be mediocre except perhaps a rare exception or two.

Solasta Crown of the Magister I tried a custom campaign and it was bad. Zero audio narration and the combat was repetitive and bland. Meh game that I barely recommend barely getting elevated by a level editor that still pales in comparison to the base product in some ways.

It would totally depend on the level editor which would take a ton of work for the developers and then the modders / content creators to come out with something half decent. Like good luck getting voice actors with decent microphones for main character, side characters and background characters... good luck...

Most people dont even use mods, a level editor means nothing to 99% of people

You have to design levels...get va acting, design battles, design quests, design NPCs and do a script. And even music possibly. Good luck any 1 person having all of those talents. In other games except for a few exceptions they have sucked.

No need for VA's when we have ChatGPT Advanced Voice Mode. :steamhappy:

As for the rest, that rly depends on the skill of the level designer.

Hopefully we get the Bethesda kind which is basically the entire game engine. I found the Cyberpunk modding tools too restrictive, all they gave you was a file replacer.

People still play Neverwinter Nights to this day because of the level editors and possabilities it offers that is over 20 years of playing a game, the lack of a level editor is a tragedy that they will hopefully fix.
