I absolutely love this game, but when I wanna talk about it with other fans, it can get weird.

Lots of people are focusing HEAVILY on the romance aspect in the game, creating weird ships that makes absolutely no sense.

Why would you want to romance Gortash? The dude is a power hungry tyrant, why would he care even a bit about who he'd bed. I am not even sure he knows what is love. Same for Orin or Ketheric. They are way to busy being deranged or spiteful to even think about doing the deed.

Then there is people asking justice for Karlach. I can understand this one a bit better, but getting a happy ending in every single side quest would be boring and expected. Tragedy is a good narrative, I am glad Larian is not yielding on that one. As they say, every good stories need an end, and Karlach demise or return to Avernus makes for a beautiful final.

It's probably just a "me" problem, because I do hate when people try to change the core essence of a character just to fit their preference.

Unfortunately for me, I am a tiktok scroller and I fall upon a lot of BG3 content.

Most of it is great, but that's also where the people playing Baldur's Date 3 are.

I get that you can play a game however you want, but man it just hurt me to see a heavy modded game of a tiefling TAV with vitiligo and a fully black tattooed neck (they seem to love that one) kissing Gortash in camp while Gale and Astarion watch in the back, dressed like harlots.

Yikes.

Sure it isn't just clickbait?

No, just a remark on how far some players have derived from the original purpose of the game and on how they made origin characters so different and out of character.

As I said, you can play however you want, but it hurts a bit to see something you love so much being treated like a dating sims game.

I agree, all the people calling this a "dating sim" and saying it's "LGBT propaganda" and whatnot are weird.

I stick with admiring the creatives who manage to stay in the lines instead of scribbling all over them. Finding ways to be creative within conditions is more inventive to me than throwing it all out the window and just doing whatever.

(It's like when people make stuff with standard-catalog LEGO brick shapes instead of commissioning custom bricks. My favorite LEGO are the original X-Wing which has two custom bricks and BD-1 which has no non-standard brick shapes. Whoever designed the life-sized BD-1 deserves an award.)

I skip the ones that look like confused daydreams of someone who's only heard about BG3 but never played it.

They can do their thing, but I can also just skip it.

You really shouldn't be surprised by the average RPG player online being horny. Really, that applies to any fandom, honestly. Where have you been since the birth of the internet?

Some place are worst than some others. The Hazbin Hotel fanbase is the weirdest and horniest I have seen. The cyberpunk one is pretty tame and respectable. I just wished the BG3 fanbase was closer to the latter.

using tiktok as a measure of anything is like using a smudged, distorted telescope to see something far away; a bad idea

It's hard to find a place to discuss that without bias.

Steam forum are notorious for people complaining about the game and rage bait.

Tiktok is notorious for some weird ♥♥♥♥ and memes.

X is just a ♥♥♥♥ place in general.

Reddit is 50/50 on helpful people and people who believes they know better than you.

Just for fun, to play devil's advocate: Gortash has a friendly history with the Dark Urge, he's got at least some sympathetic aspects to his backstory (abusive parents selling him to Raphael), and he's willing to team up with the party to subdue the brain and will (legitimately, per Detect Thoughts) agree to rule together with the party on an ongoing basis. Like, definitely not for me given how unrepentantly evil he is and I feel like it's reasonable that even if you take the path where he "joins the party" he doesn't actually become playable at any point, but I don't think it's impossible to see at least some of where his "fans" are coming from.

I will not accept any slander on my younger, handsome man, with a quick and easy smile. Gortash is the pinnacle of beauty in the game.
Newsflash: people like sex.

But why?

I mean, it's a single player game. If you're not interested in the content others are watching, then don't partake in that content!

Yeah I've seen similar arguments often.

To me it's a bit like thinking the kindness of your crush towards you is actually your crush hiting on you ; a social cue not interpreted well.

Gortash did appreciate the Dark Urge for what he is, a good business partner and a like minded individual.

Considering his tragic background and his current action, I really don't picture him thinking about love. Being a follower of Bane, for him "love" must be oppressing others to his rule, so I doubt a Chosen of Bhaal would qualify.

Well, they did put clips and mods out there in the open, it's not as if I was actively looking for that content either. I just get to see it because the algorithm thinks "this guy loves BG3, bet he's gonna love this".

It's not as if I hate for the sake of hating either. I was hoping to hear from the others and maybe even someone who believes otherwise who could provide a reason or argument that could change my mind.

I can't avert my eyes, it's in my face, so may as well talk about it since it's public.
