Are effects of weapons supposed to work when thrown?
I decided I would try a throwing build and I went with an Eldritch Knight as I just really wanted to try it. However, I am not getting weapon effects in the thrown attacks. Is this expected?

I first tried the Vision of the Absolute...but on thrown attacks it never would cause blindness (and no log of them making a saving throw), but melee has it happening left and right. When I was fighting the spiders...the melee attacks did far more damage making it seem that the extra damage effect wasn't working when I threw it either.

Now I got the Sparky Points trident and it is the same thing. i don't get lightning charges if I throw it nor will it unleash the lightning damage if I have enough lightning charges built up.

Are thrown weapons limited to just weapon and strength damage? Or have I just been trying bugged weapons? Or am I doing something wrong? Both of these weapons have the "Thrown" tag...and my weapon bond makes them come back to my hand.

I was about to respec into something else...or maybe keep the EK and see what happens with it, but as primarily a melee character...but I thought I would throw a question up about it as this build idea sounded good on paper.

Sadly no. It has to mention "when thrown" in the toolkit. You do however apply damages granted by rings or gloves if it has the "thrown" tag. I just checked.

"Are thrown weapons limited to just weapon and strength damage?"
Throwing is an action linked to STR. Weapons that do not have the "thrown" tag will be considered as an improvised weapon like a chair. Base damage is calculated on weight only. Improvised weapons do no benefit from additional sources of damages.

Weapons with the "thrown" tag will roll dices like a normal attack would do. Weapon with "finesse" will use DEX or STR for the rolls depending on which is higher like a normal attack.

I beat honor mode with 1/lock 11/EK, throwing daggers.

Edit: clarified some stuff

I believe that thrown weapons only add to the damage stats. I don't think the magical effects of them apply unless they are being used as an in-hand melee weapon - which makes sense to the way my brain works. Only weapons used as a ranged attack have their magic effects applied to them.

So...

Thrown = bashy bashy
Range = magic

For me the blinding effect of Vision of the Absolute does work when I use it as a thrown weapon.
