Honor mode and Embrace Durge are a bad combo

Man I’m reeling a bit from what just happened. Banned from Reddit once again so I’m gonna vent on yall. I was about halfway through Act 2. Had embraced Durge up to this point raiding the grove and helping Marcus take Isobel,

After we wiped out the Harper’s from Last Light, I went to Moonlight to sell my loot and see what would the response be from Isobels kidnap. I was also going to free Minthara who I was romancing along with shadowheart.

Not sure why, but I didn’t get the scene with the butler telling me I had to kill Isobel. Back at moonlight I was going to rest up before clearing out the prison and saving minthara so I took a long rest. At camp the butler showed up and told me I had to kill shadowheart. I tried to resist. I chose the option to wake up shadowheart so she could stop me, and live. But I forgot I had the risky ring on. All 4 of my rolls to wake her up got disadvantage and it was a failure.

So durge stabbed the heck out of shadowheart. When everyone wakes up, Gale and Asterion are super pissed. They’re gonna kill me. All my re-roll chances are gone. I try my one last time to lie to them that it was self defense. Ofc that roll failed. Astarion yells they’re gonna put me down.
Goes into combat mode. Gale immediately casts hold person on me and ofc it lands. I had no chance at all. Gale and astarion killed me in the first round while I’m frozen helpless, My 80 hours of honor mode run is finished. Game over.

and, i mean you can just reload. and redo the scene, right? was the golden dice really so important? (i'm still working on my first honor mode, and i'm not sure if the single save can lock you into a perpetual death loop... which is in theory possible i suppose, so if that happened to you, that sucks).

The dice have been shown to be actually against you. Larian came out with saying that it makes for more, "interesting", gameplay. It is trash.

Yeah the achievement and golden dice were a big reason for doing honor mode. I’d already completed one on tactician. In honor mode you can’t reload the scene. No save scum is a big part of the whole honor thing, I’ve read that you can turn you console off to try to cheese it, but I just accepted my fate.

Karmic dice were turned off. The thing that really screwed me was the risky ring. Without having that ring on, I would have passed the check and woken up shadowheart instead of killing her.

I'd never put the Risky Ring on a character who had to pass dialog checks. It's really for a front-line fighter who is never the face of the party.

Yeah lesson learned. I’m dumb apparently cuz I had no clue it would have any effect on dice rolls outside of combat.
