How many characters can you create in this game?

I do not want to lose my first character's save points or game play. I would instead want to create a brand new character to start the game again with a different character's attributes and race. Is there a way to make another character in this game without deleting the last character I've created?

There is no limit that I am aware of. I have 4 now that exist. I had more than that during Early Access.

I'm currently at 14 characters. I did see a youtube video of someone actually maxing out their saves though I don't know what that was since it was just a quick blurb in a review. As long as you aren't making a save every 5 minutes or something, you should be good.

Good point about the saves. When I done with a play run for a while, I delete all the saves except the last two. And even when I am playing a char run, I only have 4 - 5 saves.

You can also safely store those saves away, cut and paste them on a backup folder, label it with the name and type of the character and take it out should the fancy hit you

Go ahead. Every new character you make has its own campaign which is visibly separated from your ongoing campaigns. The amount you can make? Is only limited to your hardware storage. Someone back then had 40 GB of savegames for Ihavenoideahowmanycharacters

As a single player though? Or is that only in multiplayer mode? I'm trying to do this in single player mode to be honest.

I'm wondering about this for single player mode. I've been looking around online and stuff and I see you can create more characters that are all different in multiplayer mode.

If there's a way to make more characters in single player mode.... then how?

Just start a new game. Each character has it's own set of save slots so they don't overwrite any existing characters.

You can have multiple saves, multiple characters going whenever you want. Saving one game does not erase another, unless you save over that file.

Just make sure you don't do that, and you're fine.

Single player. I don't do co-op in this game.

you can run 4 characters at a time, and you can create 4 characters per game if you want to.
To do that, you start the game in multi-player mode. Disable steam and you can start the game 4 times locally, multi-player with yourself, roll 4 characters, get to the first place you can save and then exit the game. Restart normally in single player and you control all 4.

I don't recommend more than 2 of your own until you have beaten it a time or two. 4 of your own means you won't interact with companions which is a fair bit of content.

If your question is = and I think it is - can you create hirelings of any background, race, or gender - in single player, to create an all-custom party, the answer is yes, but you need a mod ...

It's called custom companions lite. (And you can use it without having to start 4 instances of the game).
