Really, do you hear how that sounds?
It's a game that doesn't require an online connection nor other players for you to be able to play it. It can't "die".
And the update will EXPAND story lines, not "finish up" story lines. Big difference. The story lines are already finished.
Heh! They would get more money with dlc than any other projects they are doing now!
They do something else, because they got bored/burned with D&D… money was not the issue!
As unfinished as those storylines were, it is finishing them up.
And as far as development goes, after patch 7 it is dead.
That's not what "dead" means in this context and you know it.
Really... if you played as a Dark Urge on release or even as an evil Tav, you pretty much had a meh playthrough at best. It was lacking so much content and well story that it was VERY unfinished, Even Larian admitted as such. Which is why Patch 7 is to add that missing content thus finish up those storylines that they themselves admitted as failing to finish on release.
However it is not the same "die" as an MMO would
You can only have so much fun with BG3 until you just repeat things, and the cut of content to be added means that those who had their fill, wont be coming back again once they got through that content
But with mods, that can very easily be fixed because mods can be a game changer to how much you can replay a game (hell there's even a randomizer mod or roguelike)
But yes, BG3 wouldnt "die" in the sense an MMO or other online games would die if support got completely cut aka servers shut down, however, an MMO or online game going into "maintenance mode" (aka no major updates or any at all) is the same thing as BG3 not getting any major updates anymore
Edit: forgot to add that there are a lot of online games you can perfectly play solo (call of duty whenever it has a campaign or a bot lobby, Vermintide 2 or Left4Dead2 with bots, Lord of the Rings online is an mmo you can absolutely play a ton of solo, even beat 6 man dungeons solo and there are more but you get my point)
Good luck getting back into an MMO that's been shut down.
Single-player games don't die.
He explained how they can "die" stop being obtuse.
Single-player games can die in the same way
They can be pulled off the steam site, btw. that happened with the old GTA games, nobody can buy them anymore so if you wanted those and didnt own them yet. You gotta pirate or buy the remastered, you cant get the original anymore and those GTA games ARE single player games
Another thing, MMO's can come back to life via fan servers (old WOW was like that, the Warhammer MMO is being brought back by fans)
Also, I pretty much addressed that fact of an mmo being shut down in my post, there are two versions a game can "die"
Edit: another thing for the "single player games can die"
The consoles on which they run can just cease to function, same with the physical discs, over time they will fail and break. Given they arent resold or made anymore, there is a limited lifespan of those
The only way that can be prevented is emulation on PC (or via other official means)
And emulation is mostly done by fans, same with the community servers of older mmo's
And well, you can emulate an MMO too, just someone has to go figure out how (which some did given old WOW has community servers and the Warhammer MMO)
Another thing is Steam could also shut down and gone are ALL the games bought on steam (which is highly unlikely to happen, but yknow)
Its more likely that a game gets delisted or banned in X country before steam goes down
Oh yeah, some games you cant even get because they're banned in your country, effectively "killing" the game for whoever is in that country
Like Germany banned Dying Light 1, I can quite literally not play that SINGLEPLAYER GAME
Just like a shut down MMO
So, both games can die in the same ways in both ways, just needs different circumstances
