Should I play now or wait?
I just bought this game. Should I play it now, or does it seem like it needs more time in the oven?

Wait for Patch 7.

...it's basically done except for official mod support, so the question is whether you want to wait for that.

Play NOW!
If you plan to mod it, i suggest BG3 Mod Manager for this game.
I am an avid Vortex user for modding, but the Mod Manager for this game works great.
There is so much to explore, find and choices... there's no need to wait IMHO

If you want to go the route of pure evil, might be another reason to wait for Patch 7, as that will have full endings for the evil path.

Other than that (and official mod support as noted above) ... no reason not to play now.

It has become Game of the Year in 2023. So why the ♥♥♥♥ would you want to wait? Unless for reasons mentioned above.... but even then, a second run is a thing.
most of the worst bugs are dealt with so i say go for it

Press the damn play button, you'll love it and play 2nd, 3rd, 4th game. Every time I play this game I discover more things. I really do and I'm so excited to start more games. Heck I died 5 times in honor mode and still trying it. But do try normal games first. Try different builds, different party setups, this game is still endless and I'm close to 600 hours.

Play now. I would also try vortex (nexusmods) as well to give yourself a lot more options in character creation so you can set up your party to be how you want them to be.

I made it about 40 hours into my first play and almost quit there, but once I tried out the mods, my interest in the game increased as I could make my own party rather than be stuck with the limited choices the vanilla game gives you.

Patch 7 (September) will add official mod support, but it will never give you the 1,000s of customization choices the unofficial mods give you right now to improve the game from meh to great.

You can probably get through your 1st play before Patch 7 drops and then it will give you some new things to try that would make your 2nd play unique, that is if the game is something you enjoyed enough the 1st time.
