Brand new to this type of game (D&D RPG). Never played a Baldur's gate game before. Should I keep it?
Bought this game on a sale off a whim. Never played anything like it before. Should I keep it or give it a refund?

It's a great game, but depends on your tastes, really.

This is my first Baldur's Gate/D&D style game as well. It's similar to things I have played before, so not that different from the rest. Some differences (like having to roll a dice here and there, especially during conversations)

It shouldn't be that hard for you to learn. You also have 2 hours (don't pass that) and 14 days (don't pass this either) to change your mind and get a refund. Try it out before you miss out.

Based on the games you played, Baldurs Gate is not for you. Refund it and learn to control your shopping mania.

It's not bad for the OP to learn/get into a new game or forever miss out on learning a new game and experiencing something amazing. You should know, you played the game for over 1,000 hours.

You've got two hours, right? That should give you a good idea about the gameplay. Just don't screw around forever in the CC.

The companions you meet early are a bit... spiky, I guess? Long-term you can get along fine with them without too much difficulty. Or not, if that's how you want to roll.

That's a good point.
Probably best to play as one of the origin characters for the test run, so you don't spend the whole 2 hours in character creation :)

Im not new to the genre though. I have been playing turn-based RPGs for the last 20 years or so.. well, Ive played both real-time with pause and turn-based, I like both. I played Baldurs Gate 2 many times in the past and I also played a few Larian games before so I knew what I was getting. I bought Baldurs Gate 3 on the first day of Early Access, never doubted for a moment, didnt need to ask.

Only once I decided to make a change, spent 40 Euro on a Dark Souls game.. bought it "off a whim" and regretted it badly, it was not for me. Wasted money.

Of course he can try it, but we know that first 2 hours of the game are not very immersive and may not leave the best impression to someone who never played turn-based games. He could look up videos on Youtube to check the combat further in the story. However you know this game takes over 100 hours to finish, I have read many threads where people complained how turn-based combat is boring to them and they never finished the game.

Definitely a keeper, but if it's not your style, you could check out Divinity Original Sin 2, another title by Larian and it's quite similar to BG3, just without the D&D 5e ruleset. The only major difference between them are the dicerolls, you don't roll dice in DoS2 apart from varying damage numbers, you're either skilled enough to do something or you're not. It's much simpler than this game too.

I personally enjoyed DoS2 when I played solo, but BG3 I prefer with friends, cuz rolling critical failures by yourself is annoying, rolling it with friends is funny, especially if something goes horribly wrong.

Well, the OP has "Final Fantasy" games (turn based games) and I am sure more (I didn't check out the whole game list) so, I think they will be fine with the combat. They also played Dark Souls and more (different types of combat games)

You bought BG3 because you enjoyed BG2 a whole lot. Wouldn't be too hard to know you'd get BG3. So, you couldn't get a refund for that Dark Souls game? I guess you put way more than 2 hours in it. Must have enjoyed it until you stopped enjoying it.

Well, from the first hour I was already hooked lol. It all depends on the person. I can understand you looking out for the OP but let them give the game a chance and come to an answer themselves.

Looking at his stats, I'm not sure a guy who only got 15 hours into Dragon Age: Origins will get his money's worth out of BG3.

Just because they put 15 hours into one specific game? I only put 4.1 hours into Dragon Age: Origins lol I can say for 100% certainty that I love BG3 more than that one x3

People being quick to stop the OP from jumping into the game. "they won't like it, enjoy it, won't get their money's worth" etc. What don't you guys give the OP a chance to find out for themselves?

It's the game in his library that's most similar to BG3, AFAIK.

Besides, I already advised him to put his two hours in. Beyond that, I don't know what to tell him.

I bought Baldurs Gate 3 mainly because I already loved Larian :) For me, they are 4A company, after the Divinity series. I had no doubts.

I could not refund the Dark Souls game because I spent much more than 2 hours in it. I kept trying, forcing myself into it but I couldnt even get past the Gargoyls on the roof.. Im not good at this type of combat. But I thought. Oh well :)

Im not trying to argue, just sharing a view that sometimes trying another genre may lead to disappointment and he is already questioning a refund. I definitely suggest looking up more about the game before starting it because he will spend some time in the character creator and it takes a portion of the 2 hour limit for refunds.
