Devil's Sight character immune to Blinded in Darkness spell but not in Hunger of Hadar?
I thought that HoH seemed like a straight upgrade since my devil's sight character's darkness tactic of jumping in and hitting enemies with advantage and jumping out doesn't work? Apparently when attacking a blinded enemy and inching into the cloud, my devil sight character is in fact getting blinded by it. Is this something unique to Hunger of Hadar or a glitch?

Devil's Sight specifically allows the one with it to see in darkness (magical or otherwise) as if it were fully lit.

As for HoH,
You open a gateway to the dark between the stars, a region infested with unknown horrors. A 20-foot-radius sphere of blackness and bitter cold appears, centered on a point within range and lasting for the duration. This void is filled with a cacophony of soft whispers and slurping noises that can be heard up to 30 feet away. No light, magical or otherwise, can illuminate the area, and creatures fully within the area are blinded.

The void creates a warp in the fabric of space, and the area is difficult terrain. Any creature that starts its turn in the area takes 2d6 cold damage. Any creature that ends its turn in the area must succeed on a Dexterity saving throw or take 2d6 acid damage as milky, otherworldly tentacles rub against it.

So, HoH describes a 'sphere of blackness' and a 'void'. Anybody fully inside it is considered blinded, but it's not very explicit on whether others can see /into/ it with darkvision, devil's sight, or any other feature.

Devil's Sight is meant to pierce the dark created by a spell like darkness, not the void of hunger of Hadar. #DnD

but that is his opinion and not an official ruling ala Sage Advice (as compiled in https://www.dndbeyond.com/sources/sac/sage-advice-compendium ) which, AFAICT, is silent on the matter.

Oh so it IS unique in that way. cool. I can have Gale use the original Darkness spell anyway so I'm fine, but at least I got some good context. Thanks.

None, none more dark!

"No light, magical or otherwise, can illuminate the area,"

I think this is the reason why Devil's Sight shouldn't work because imo it's magic and Hunger of Hadar negates that.

Darkness isn't at all the same.

edit: I can be interesting to have a character use Darkness Arrows to do damage to a target for your Devil's Sight character to go in for melee.

A bit late. That doesnt make any sense, Devil sight provides the ability to see through magical, non magical darkness. Hunger of Hagar is a conjuration darkness magical spell (uses a spell slot) in BG3, so there is no sense of it blinding a character that has access to Devil Sight. Correction seems like Hunger of Hagar is considered void a completely different from darkness. Very vague on the rules of this spell really. Void is separate from darkness.

Hunger of Hadar blinds the Sharrans in the House of Grief who otherwise are not affected by Darkness.

Hunger of Hadar can be targeted into, but not out of. It's a heck of a spell in BG3. Something you want to cast, but you don't want other people to cast on you. (Mostly the only place it is used against you is at Moonrise Towers.)
