Or maybe you want your own eldritch knight to be the archer? There's some really good builds for that! In which case a tanky character could be nice to fill the vacancy. I saw a fun idea on YT yesterday for Halsin as a respecced wildheart barbarian/circle of the moon druid, which looked extremely tanky!
Eldritch knights are great tanks, full plate and shield spell. Because they don't need much other spells at 1st level than Shield, they can take all the utility rituals like Longstrider, Jump and Feather fall, that frees your full casters to take others spells instead of them. At 2nd level Blur to concentrate on in big fights and Misty step. Rest take what you want.
You can even give them the Band of mystic scoundrel and Headband of Intellect and with Eldritch strike they can land Hold person on who they hit as bonus action and they would need to save with disadvantage. Or you could just use the Band of the Mystic scoundrel on EK to bonus action cast Blur and Mirror image mid-fight.
