Whispering Promise ring -- where is it?

On my first playthrough with my wife, we found the Whispering Promise ring. It's an awesome ring for a healer! But now, ~10+ playthroughs later, I simply can't find it ever. I have, once or twice, hacked it into the game, but I can't find it on the hobbit vendor in the Grove, and I can't find it at the Zhentarim vendor (after giving them the unopened chest). Is this thing bugged? Or is Volo the only place to find it (something I only just figured out today)?

or, and I don't know, is there only one ring and its been... ahem... moved from volo to the vendor ...

if you missed it, you should pick pocket zelvor when the merc knocks him out for some healing gloves, the goblin also sells some boots that are for healing, ... you can get quite a few bonuses for casting an in-game heal. Later you can also cure poison on a heal if you want (kinda situational item of very limited use).

Volo sells it. If you talk to him in the grove, you can wait until it's your turn to talk in the dialogue to open a trade window with him.
