fighter battle master or barbarian berserker?
looking to add some melee DPS/tank to my group. currently im running a tempest cleric for melee and spell damage with shadowheart has life cleric and gale as evocation. my last run i had minratha setup as a dual wielding battlemaster and that worked ok but i kind of want to run with karlach now. not sure if i should leave her a barbarian or reclass her to fighter.

Barbarian's good for damage dealing, less so for tanking unless you give her heavy armour and lose Rage ability. In which case you might as well just respec her as a fighter. I'd have thought your Tav and Shadowheart could handle tanking pretty easily anyway.
Paladin.

Frenzy Barbarian is my favorite class in BG3 right now.

Berserker is fun but Battlemaster is more versatile and also fun.

Berserker/Champion Barb-Fighter is great on Karlach even with her using Medium armor

With an amulet from House of Hope you can have very tanky barbarian with no armor in Bonespike Garb. With stats like 22str, 18 dex, 23con (via amulet) and 14wis. That will give you 21 or 22 AC, tons of HP and all the dmg capabilities you have.

And if you multiclass berserker(8)/thief(4) while raging you'll have 3 attacks on first round and 4 on all next and all thiefs bonuses for lockpicking\disarming.

When I play fighter it's because I want to use exactly one single brain cell on combat, so I always go Champion to keep my options limited to hitting one thing several times or several things one time.

Barbarian Wildheart with Bear Heart is a very strong main front, the game has some powerful armor fully compatible with rage and Bear Heart seems be significant (I failed find the numbers involved).

But ok that's not Barbarian berzerker targeted by OP.

Bear heart gives you resistance to ALL damage except for psychic.
You also get a 1d8 +2 self heal action once per rage.

Eagle barbarian for epic leaps.
Everybody can throw stuff, even 8 str wizards… but eagle barbarians are the only ones that can leap on their enemies smashing them on the ground!

Ok finally found that for D&D resistance means half damages, no surprise I felt Barbarian Wildheart with Bear Heart is a very solid main front.

I have Lae'zel as Battle Master and Karlach as Beserker.

I take Lae'zel out pretty much all the time rather than Karlach. Biggest reason is probably Great Weapon Master + Combat Manoeuvres (esp Trip) + Action Surge + Githynaki Jump means whatever enemy badly needs to die fast duly dies fast against any virtually any defence in virtually any circumstance. I am very reluctant to leave home without Lae'zel. I'm just glad she's on my side.
