Heavy was not added as a descriptor in the final game since it's only other purpose was to restrict the types of two-handed weapons Small races could use effectively, which is not a thing in BG3.
In BG3 it means any Two-Handed Weapon or a Versatile weapon when wielded with two hands. So for example Phalar Alluve can be used as a "Great Weapon" with the feat Great Weapon Master. I have confirmed this in game.
Oh so even a spear can be a great weapon? Damn but does the pole arm stuff and great weapon and the fighting styles all stack?
But if you pair a versatile weapon with a shield or a 2nd weapon it will count as a 1-hand weapon and will not benefit from and 2-hand buffs
Yes, Sentinel too, which just breaks the game cause they have longer reach so you slap someone before they can hit you and then can't move anymore.
Toss in Tavern Brawler and https://bg3.wiki/wiki/Nyrulna and you've created a monster.
