I'd recommend getting behind the throne and baiting Gortash there. That way, you have a chokepoint with a door and you can funnel the fight this way.
If he's up in his chambers, you need to be very careful and stay on the red carpet, in the room with the busts.
And yeah, sneak up and around the tower. Ignore the coronation area.
does that also apply to the ones outside the area you fight Gortash?
cant disarm or destroy traps
can't fight him in the area above the busts
things i have to do:
have to talk to Gortash (grenade immediately drops at my feet -trap triggered)
have to fight Gortash in the area with the busts (where there are traps)
have to stay on the red carpet (near the traps)
why does this one achievement have to be so annoying?
i know, but i dont have the weapon or that much gold in order to do so
And now that I remember, I also killed him in one turn though I didn't use any gold trick. I used Hold Person then beat him to death with crits from a hasted Fighter and Barbarian on Tactician.
good idea, or you could try (hasted) 2 monks + 2 paladins and they would easily have enough burst damage to take him out in 1 round even without a failed save on the hold person spell.
1. Took the long round about route to the top floor. Video to link to show the route. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wusyYMUOWrA
2. I kept three of members of my party, outside and around the corner to ensure no traps were triggered.
3. I sent Astarion to sneak in. I used acid arrows (anything with an AOE, really) to snipe at Gortash from maximum range.
4. Once I hit Gortash, I retreated further back, beyond the entrance, then panned over. I kited him again. This brought him further along.
5. This is important. The enemies registered that the shot had come from where Astarion was, and walked to the point where it originated.
6. I was going in for a third shot, then that triggered combat. I already had Astarion in the door way, behind the traps. They did not activate.
7. I had Astarion run away and join my party. We proceeded to throttle Gortash. Achievement acquired.
I'll give this way a try, thanks
1. Destroyed the traps (so they weren't triggered, then shot him and ran outside so everyone could kill him together.
2. Got everyone in the room above (with the lever and ladder) then shot him, turned invisible so it didn't set off any traps, headed upstairs, became visible so he would follow up... then killed him with everyone.
3. Step 2 but entered dialog first.
Nothing seems to work. I don't get it.
I feel like none of the methods people are suggesting are working. What am I missing?
Maybe I just need to play ALL THE WAY THROUGH again and kill him at the coronation?
