Could we have had a fully voiced Tav if Larian didn't make 7 different Tav voices instead?
Seems like quite a needless waste IMO. Why the hell did they make so many different Tav voices for to only be for mere exploration commentary?

If they just did away with that and only made 2 Tav voices: male and female, like in Mass Effect, maybe then they'd have the resources to give Tav a full voice for all the conversations

Wtf srsly? Custom Protagonists being fully voiced is one of the biggest immersion breaks possible, it was a smart and correct decision on Larians side to not fully voice Tav

Dunno, never been discussed here before.

Unless you're actually mute IRL or are playing as a mute individual, having a voiced protagonist is the opposite of immersion-breaking.

And if they gave Tav only one voice, people would be complaining about how few voice options there are. As it is, they feel the choices are too few, anyway.

Is this a joke or something? How is having some mute protagonist more 'immersive' than a voiced one? lol

Fully voiced Tav was planned. The majority said they didn't want it, so it was scrapped.

Literally nobody ever complained of such a thing, ever. And literally all such RPGs have only given two voices (male and female) and no one has EVER complained.

Mass Effect, Cyberpunk, Assassins Creed... no one cares. Jeez. Just have a male and female option is literally enough.

So why did Larian think it'd be better to have 7 freaking voice actors for?

I personally prefer a mute protagonist in most games. But it was something under consideration which in EA most people ended up being for the mute option.

Makes zero sense. They could just an option in the game to toggle Tav's voice on and off. Even now there are people who dont like hearing Tav's repetitive voice commentary so they just turned off Tav's voice completely in the game settings

Nope, because a fully voiced Tav is 'better' as long as the voice fits the voice in your head, as soon as it doesn't and this includes simple things like dialects etc, it completely ♥♥♥♥♥ you over.

Btw 'mutes' do have a voice too but I'm kind of not surprised you never thought about how 'they' might actually have internal dialogues, perfectly fits the extremely shortsighted take of "Tav without voice is immersion breaking for everyone that can speak!" xD

Because while you're reading, you voice Tav in your head, that's what people do ;)

listen... mass effect had 4 different dialogue choices many of which dont affect the actually conversation while BG3 had more than 4 different dialogue options most of which have an impact on the conversation

odds are even reducing the voices to only 2 still wouldnt be enough to fully voice the entire game. 7 voice actors performing for a small part of the game is IMMENSELY cheaper than 2 voice actors performing for the entire game

Larian had also planned to have each Origin character be their own narrator. That was scrapped too because-once again- people felt it broke their immersion.

They could just make a voiced Tav then give players the option to toggle the voice off. You can already do that in this game for all of Tav's voiced commentary

Pretty sure it isnt. 7 voice actors means paying each and every one of these different actors a salary/compensation package. If you only hired 2, you could probably spend less money while getting more voice lines from them only.

Also makes no sense considering the sheer amt of dialogue lines in this game to begin with anyway. Voice asset expenses clearly was never Larian's concern

it would take far more time which means far more money. 2 hours of voice acting vs what 30 hours of voice acting per person?
