Do you think BG3 characters will return in Baldur’s Gate 4?
For me, I wish they don’t. Since Hasbro just took Larian’s hands off their property, it has left me concerned about the future of the series.

There's so much uncertainty about whether they will maintain the same level of dedication and passion that was evident towards to this game. Without the creative vision and commitment of the team at Larian Studios, there's so much fear that Hasbro might make decisions that could undermine the quality and integrity of future games in the franchise.

It's disheartening to think that all the hard work and open-ended storytelling of BG3 could be disregarded or mishandled in a potential sequel under a new direction. Given to their controversial reputation in recent years, many of us would worry so much that they may prioritize profits, like those cancerous monetizations that has been plague in gaming, over the artistry and storytelling that made Baldur's Gate 3 so compelling.

I swear that Hasbro will make even more dumb decisions. It’s sad because we are in a year when D&D has become even more mainstream lately.

You mean like Larian butchered the BG2 characters? Yeah, so silly.

Has a BG4 even been announced?

It's a guarantee the characters will return in other DnD media. I'm not sure it will be BG4 specifically but you can bet your ass they will return in some media before BG4 is even released.

Who cares about Baldurs Gate 4, it will not be made by Larian.

Huh, that's what people said about BG3, "It will not be made by BioWare so it's trash"

There may never be a BG4. But with the contract in effective terminus, the rights to the BG3 characters revert to WotC.

And they are already being used -- in Magic the Gathering, for example.

Yeah the fact that they were in MtG before BG3 launched is some solid evidence to expect them in some other D&D releases.

Definitely at least cameos if a BG 4 is made, just like the BG 1 characters appearing in BG 2 or the (living) BG 2 characters appearing in BG3.

This is the only relevant post in this thread.

It sounds like it's a bad thing, really. Basically, it can end up with even lower content quality, and more wokeness. Interesting, but going mainstream can actually kill D&D. BG3 is so much worse than BG1 and BG2, for example.

I, too, believe that when a game sells more copies it's bad news for the company selling it.

If only Larian had known this and had tried to make a game that I, and only I could enjoy! Then D&D would be saved!

And every band that actually sells albums is a sellout, they should keep playing for 20 people in a strip club at 1pm

I was gonna jump on Woke Buster too, but I'm starting to feel sympathy for the guy. Imagine living in a world where most of the professional class and the vast majority of creative professionals have no use at all for your values and tastes? It's way worse for him than it was for me at the height of the Reagan era.

Yes, but my guess is it will end up just like your fears. They will be retconned again with disastrous results such as gender swapping or feminizing Minsk and race swapping a couple of the BG3 characters to meet a DEI quota.

Corporate suits that don't play the games have no vested interest in the lore or continuity and don't have any issues literally pissing on your heroes.
