Early game, hardly ( unless 1lvl rogue for expertise )
Mid/Late game, yes.
Depends the game mode ( detect thoughts allows you to skip some checks, but on honour mode some creatures might become hostile iirc )
It's perfectly fine ( more combat encounters, and less shop discount though ).
Difficulty doesn’t really matter.
You can go straight ahead from prologue to epilogue with any issue ( I assume this is not your first run and you know the encounters ).
ps: just be aware that starting some dialogues with a spellcaster means that they will be close to the enemies, when the combat starts. Which means that it might be advides ( depends your character ) to let some dialogues to the tanky one.
3 spells as Warlock feels bad...but with Necro Staff...ahhh so hard
Why have an 8CHA? I mean a wizard only requires 2 attributes and a third for concentration and durability.
Your typical wizard attribute spread if you want to be the face should be.
Str-8
Dex-14
Con- 12
Int- 16
Wis- 12
Cha- 14
You can drop your Wisdom to 10 and add 1 to Con, and 1 to Str, but kind of pointless.
You wont keep concentration on anything if you are hit but it is best to just go full on blaster or controller with that type of build. If you go Abjuration you can drop your INT to 14, and pump your Con to 14. As very few Abjuration spells require a hit roll or save DC.
My first tactician wizard play through, I was a deep gnome wizard with that exact stat spread. Had NO issues... ran a controller setup relying on conjuration school and enchants. Gale was my evocation wizard so he was damage.
You absolutely can complete a playthrough without a party face, provided you are aware of some considerations beforehand.
-----
1st off, Shop prices are gonna be a b*tch & a half without a Face. Assuming no Persuasion proficiency and 8 CHA, you'll be facing a modifier before approval of +160% to the item's base value when trying to buy it, and a -61.5% modifier when trying to sell it. For example, for the Hunting Shortbow from Dammon, the buy price would be 169gp, and the sell price would be 25gp.
Tactician pumps the modifiers to +210% for buying and -67.7% for selling (the same Hunting bow example before would be 202 to buy, 21 to sell.
You're absolutely gonna want to have Persuasion proficiency at a minimum if you want to get these prices down to a more reasonable level (provided you don't do Sleight of Hand cheese or 2x Bag Exploits).
- Just proficiency alone on Tactician is enough to move the modifiers to +170%/-63%.
- Adding expertise to it will make prices jump to +130%/-56.5%, and you can do this with just a ROG level.
- Making sure to grab Envoy's Amulet in the Underdark can add a +2 to one trader per day, which is enough to move the modifiers to +110%/-52.4%.
-----
2nd, dialogue options are gonna be much harder, specifically for Persuasion and Intimidation. -1 on a DC 10 means you only have a 50% chance to pass that check. If it's DC 18, that's only a 10% chance. Both are common values.
Guidance and Enhance Ability (CHA) help a ton, but even those only go so far. For that, you will still need proficiency, and for some checks you want to be ready to engage them using Favorable Beginnings to maximize you chances of success. Failing some Persuasion checks can actually lead to the loss of party members, or in one case, the end of the run entirely, so be ready.
Any background that provides Persuasion proficiency, really.
