Even with ways to reliably add advantage (ensnaring strike, fairy fire) to your attacks the chances of crits is rather low unless your spamming hold person & that sadly only works on humanoids which a large chunk of enemies in the game don't qualify as.
(and if you are playing in honor or tactician guaranteed crits from hold person are no longer a thing)
So yes it would be nice when you finally do get a crit but its just not reliable enough.
Just starting out in Act 3. Pretty fun build as it offers some versatility when it comes to melee, ranged and spell casting. Lae'zel having knock prone via Battlemaster opens up advantages pretty easily, otherwise I've got Shadowheart or Gate (Bard Wizard) to help deal with enemies.
Act 2 boss fight was kinda difficult until I realised how the mechanics worked.
There are a ton methods to get advantage in the game, Knock downs, grease, blind, fear, and so on.
There are items that also improved critical but they are few and far between. There is a improved critical elixir as well.
Basically Champion (3), The Old Ones (1), and what every other class you want. Pally if you want that Smite...
