Titanstring Bow vs two one-handed crossbows for Astarion
Which would you go for in Act One?

The damage doesn't fall off a lot, and being able to attack twice (and use two special arrows) is quite handy. And unless you've raised his strength, it doesn't give him much of a bonus (assuming I'm remembering that bow give you strength bonus, right?).

It depends the class, the equipment and the feats.

If you go straight to the creche, around lvl 4, you'll be able to benefit from 18 STR and 18 DEX for a long way, which makes it better than any double xbows.

Past act one, you'd be able to switch to double xbows when you'll get the force and the hellfire one ( plus the advantage roll ring i don't remember its name, and the sharpshooter feat ).

I always go with 2 one handed crossbows, just feels better to me anyway. :)

Get a few stacks of elixirs from Ethel(she has x3 stack each reset) at the druid grove they set str to 21 easily making this the best bow in the whole game unless you go for a crit based build later in act 3. Not to mention there are even better str elixirs once you are level 9+ that set it to 27 making this bow even better.

My ranged bard ran this bow in my last run for the whole run from the moment I got so in other words this could be your forever weapon.

Titanstring with Extra Attack and 21 strength elixirs from ethel

otherwise, dual crossbows but probably depends on your early class choices as well

Don't all those elixirs get expensive?

yeah, a bit. but i like to pickpocket everything from the other vendors anyways. there's only a little consequence to being caught pick-pocketing, especially if you position your party far away from your thief.

just don't steal from Ethel in the Teahouse on Honour mode.

You can also just use bags it saves a lot of time pickpocketing the NPCs I did a lot of pickpocketing in my first run but it drove me nuts how long it would take to get what I wanted.
