Multiplayer issues, Missing chest.
Good afternoon adventurers,

I am running into an issue with multiplayer when my s/o and I play together on PC. I would host the match and have her join me at the very beginning of the game, (Character selection and opening scene).

We can play through the game normally but, once we get to camp there is only one travelers chest. I try to open the travelers chest and it says that I can not open it and it's for someone else. The weird thing is, the chest is for the host which is me.

I tried the following to trouble shoot this issue:

-I tried multiple campaigns, deleting them and starting over.

-I turned off her cloud saves on Steam, (Since we are doing the family sharing beta. Both of us have our own copy of the game.)

-I had her create a Larin account.

-I started a game with a friend who was willing to test this. When we got to camp, both chests were there.

-Deleted my player profile and saves.

-Tried using a VPN and got the same result.

Does anyone else run into this issue when playing with someone in the same household on PC? Did you find a solution?

Sometimes the chest spawn on top of eachother.
When using ALT (or whatever key you use to highlight items), do you see one tag for Traveller's Chest, or two ?

Solution

I figured out the solution. The issue was my s/o's computer. For some reason my old cloud saves were being saved onto their computer and when we launched the game, the game didn't know who was host.

So I did the following:

-Disabled their cloud save feature on BG3.

-Went into the following folder to delete and deleted the "Public" folder and "Playerprofile8.lsf" file.
C:\Users\XXXXX\AppData\Local\Larian Studios\Baldur's Gate 3\PlayerProfiles
(X's represent your windows user name)

-I then went into the following folder and deleted the "remote" folder and "Remotecache.vdf" folder.
C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\userdata\XXXXXXXX\1086940
(X's represent your steam id number)

We launched the game afterwords, keeping both folders open to make sure my cloud saves weren't going to be auto added to their files. They didn't and we were able to see two chests afterwords.

Spouse and I are having this issue, but we don't want to get rid of the multitude of our save files.

What did it do to your save files though? Did it delete them all or did you re-enable cloud and have them work that way?

The files that were being downloaded on my S/O's computer were from my solo plays. So I only deleted those from her local folder. As far as I could tell, it didn't effect my main computer saves. I think I kept steam cloud save on for my s/o's computer during this time and booted the game on her device and steam re downloaded those same save files. Once I deleted the files again I disabled the cloud save feature on my s/o's computer for BG3 and noticed that the chest issue was fixed once we started a new game and my solo saves weren't being downloaded to her local file. Since then I haven't had them re-enable it. Unfortunately they don't have the game downloaded anymore so I am unable to see what happens if I re-enable the cloud save feature.

Some stuff I came across when this originally happened was people stating that at one point two users were using the same device under two different steam accounts. So for example you signing into your account using your partners computer or the other way around. If either of you have done this I wonder if either of you can sign back on and possibly disable cloud saves to your account for BG3 on that device without it effecting your main computers.

Me and my s/o are also having issues with this. Does anyone know if deleting the files of his computer will remove any of our save-files at all? We already lost 60 hours of the game earlier and don’t want to risk that again haha

You could test it out by backing up your saves to a separate folder on the desktop.

Having the same problem but the above solutions do not seem to work for me.

The thread is old, so it is normal if previous solution might not work. There has been another thread recently with an acceptable solution.
