Question about the Emperor [ENDGAME]
In the final fight (siding with Orpheus), is there anything special that happens if you sneak past the Emperor and enter the crown and finish the game without killing him?

Since technically he'd be alive, surviving the brain crashing into the water, you/orpheus still having your ego (assuming he does too) and him surviving the final fight. So there's no reason for him to be dead, meaning you'd have an ending with the Emperor and Orpheus.

Unless you need to kill him in the final fight (not sure) or he ends up dead somehow later on

pretty sure that as it stands, if you "spare" him this way its not ever brought up and its up to you to HC this until further notice, RP in your RPG

Considering it's endgame and max leveled I just beeline straight for the actual final boss most of the time, so I didn't kill the Emperor on quite a few of them. No letters, no cameos, no special cutscenes or flavor text. So he either died when you went good ending on the final boss or he broke free and made zero contact with the party afterwards.

this is one part of the game I don't like. The emperor is with you all game, you have many disagreements. his reluctance to free Orpheous is that he is certain he will immediately turn on you and seek to control the brain himself

Instead of sticking around he joins the netherbrain????...after all that?!? his entire back story and reason for fighting against the nether brain with you are not only void but he is now determined to shatter the world and make everyone an obedient mind flayer subject?

whiny ♥♥♥♥♥ didnt get his way.

I side with Orpheous every time now just so i can kill this dude.. Orph is far superior flayer anyways

The reason he sides wih the Netherbrain is that he is an ultimate survivor. If losing his freedom is the only factor that prevents his death, he'll do that. He's pretty sure that if the brain wins the fight, he'll find the way to break mindchains again (as he did twice already).
As for being with you all the game, try to piss him off in the cutscene after discovering his Elfsong hideout. That can spill some light on his true opinion of MC and the whole party.
Orph is far superior flayer anyways
Karlach makes a far better mind flayer. And Orpheus and Voss are just jumping out of pants from being free and happy

I was also strongly reluctant to do this, but I was playing a githyanki Tav at that moment, and it was quite logical for him to remain intact himself, romance Lae'zel and free Orpheus. All gucci and all, y'see.
Only after doing this I realized that Karlach benefits from turning much more than anyone else and in the Epilogue even thanks you for it

Except she's not really Karlach anymore. The mind flayer who was born from Karlach's sacrifice might thank you, but is that really the same thing?

Well, that's a disputable question. I'd say, half-and-half. She obviously preserves all her life experience and, as there's no Elder brain around to subdue her, still preserves her personality and feelings. At the same time, at the Epilogue she sometimes lets out some phrases that suppose she has accepted her new entity completely, like 'I mustn't think of all these minds around'.
Almost the same can be said about Tav, who sacrificed him/herself to the same ends, if only it's a pity that Tav (seemingly) didn't manage to arrange satisfying his/her new requirements as good and smoothly as Karlach.
