A Shapeshifty Druid would be nice, yes. But I can always respect him too! Either or really, I'm really open to whatever. :)
A fun trick you can do with shapeshifter druids is that shifting does not break concentration. Halsyn will always have Call Lightning - you can cast it at the start of the fight then Wildshape as a bonus action. You can be a THUNDER OWLBEAR!
As far as Feats go, Alert and Tavern Brawler are incredible. Alert is sorta like having an extra turn at the start of combat, and Tavern Brawler is sorta like adding at least a +3 enhancement bonus to all of your wildshaped melee attacks. War Caster is a great final pick for maintaining concentration.
I generally respec him into a Life Cleric though - particularly because Shadowheart generally only survives half of my playthroughs. It still fits his flavour, but you don't miss out on dialogue because of him being shapeshifted - it's absolutely godlike for keeping a party alive. You take Heavy Armour Master for a flat -3 damage reduction, then anything with the Magical Plate special rule for an additional -2. You then use Warding Bond on your party, and enjoy the feeling of functional immortality.
Oh yay!! This is such useful information! I love the idea of the Thunder OwlBear haha! And I definitely will try to scavenge out that armor piece for sure! It sounds really good for him. Thank you again! :)
You can switch the Gloves for something else - what i am aiming with that build should be obvious:

No worries! Enjoy the rest of the game!
Oh okay! Gotcha gotcha, I'll look into it for sure! Thank you. :)
If you keep him as an animal focused druid the only change I would make is a level dip into monk so you can add wisdom to animal form ac.
Sadly barbarian rage won't work right in game a lot of times for animal form (it does in table top) so monk ends up being really the only thing worth grabbing.
Other then that max his wisdom and dex since tavern brawler doesn't seem to work well with animal form either.
(really the only feat that does is savage attacker)
It's for this reason that giving him the healer set (Wapira's Crown, Whispering Promise, that sort of stuff) ends up being one of his best options, since most of the time he'll be a Myrmidon at 10th level or some kind of beast like the dinosaur or the sabretooth. Boosting his CON for saves and WIS for spellcasting when he's not wildshaped is typically the way to go for his ASIs since he's not really feat-dependent.
Based off this, you have 2 ways to branch him out: either go full on shapeshifter with the Shapeshifter's Boon and either the Mutilated Carapace or the Moonbask Armor; or full healer build that diverges him from straight Moon DRD (you'd want 6 levels of Life CLC and a level of WIZ to maximize his healing efficacy).
Either one is super item efficient (Shifter build only has 2 mandatory slots meaning you can give him whatever and it'll still work. Some good choices are Flawed Helldusk Helm, Cloak of Protection, Revival Hands, Evasive Shoes, Whispering Promise and Amulet of Health, but you can really use whatever), with the healer build using mostly items from Act I and any good heavy armor.
