What exactly is the point of being able to use furnitures in this game? eg. sleeping in beds, sitting on chairs...
I always found the feature really comical since it's so useless and also funny to see my character just poink to lie on a bed for no reason at all.

I mean you cant even interact with anything while lying and sitting down. So like... what's the point of this?

Because if it weren't there, other people would complain about the opposite, even though the overwhelming majority of players probably just use this a handful of times.

I know of one secret door you need to open by sitting in chairs. Look up the answer if you don't want to sit everywhere to find it.

Because it's funny, especially when a wild shaped druid uses any furniture.

Since they give NPC's the ability to sit or lie down on certain things, they probably just made it so NPC's are like player characters and saved themselves to make seperate animations for those functions while also allowing Players to do the same. Which also just takes the load off the developers so if they have an NPC sitting down or lying down they dont have to make a new event or set of animations for it and can just reuse the basic one (there are many NPC's that either sit or are lying down in the game, including in cutscenes)

Why would players want to do it? For fun, simple as that
And why not just disable it for the player? Well, there's no reason to not have it enabled and more options (even if pointless for most) are better than more limited options

Aside from the already mentioned need to sit in some nice chairs to open a secret door, you can also practice sitting around camp at NPC stations to illicit various verbal responses.

In DOS2 I believe you can use beds and bedrolls to restore health real quick

I expect this is the actual main answer. Their game engine already allows this action, so there was no particular reason not to let the player use it.

For that matter, you can sit in a chair or lie on a bed in many games, and have been able to do so for 10-20 years now. Most of the time it's just for flavor or perhaps immersion. Only very rarely do games actually make some gameplay use of it.

Yeah - it is Divinity: Original Sin 2.5 (The Faerun Mod) after all, the ability was always there ...

I completely agree for most RPGs, though in survival games it's pretty common to gain benefit for sitting for a little while to rest, and one MMO I have has an achievement for sitting in all 100 styles of chairs to be found throughout the game's world.

It's so that in multiplayer you can all sit down around a table and stare, silently, unable to communicate with each other

I think the purpose is so you can play 'Where's Waldo' (or Tav) in MP.

There is also at least one chair I know of that triggers some dialogue if you sit on it.

I think "useless" features like this actually make the world seem more alive.
