17000 possible endings... (spoilers)
... or so they say. 16999 bad and one sad...

The sad being Gale's nukeing the brain and we siding with Orpheus.

Each one will have their own perception of this, of course, but I think we can all agree there is no such thing as a "good" ending in this game.

The other "acceptable", actually, the most honourable ending is the Tav becoming Mind Flayer and save all his or her friends.

But, of course, it is quite dismal. I sort of expected to be given a chance, at the end, to commit honorable suicide or blissfully die in the fall of the brain but no, I get the same happy party at the end and Laez'el even chose me to go with her hunting Vlaakith. Makes no sense, how could she ever keep loving such a monstrosity, for as much as she tried?

Why didn't I chose the Emperor? And condemn Orpheus? Who would lead his people to freedom while saving the life of a selfish guy who should've, long ago, as suggested by his Dragon friend, be honorably dead and not a soulless monster? And who got himself into that situation while hunting for more treasure and fame? No, Balduran was meant to rest in peace in werewolves island in BG2, let us RIP him here and now.

Why didn't I let Orpheus transform? You mean, I wake up the guy from centuries of imprisonment to turn him into his most hated enemy? Besides, he's the one who has more chances of leading his people successfully against Vlaakith.

I keep wondering why I couldn't, simply, bring in Omellum with me, as an ally, and nobody would have to sacrifice... After all, I had so many allies that, if I called them all there would be no space left at the top of the brain to hold all that army. One more wouldn't make a difference. I called none... Except for 2 iron hand grenadiers, near the end, just to watch them blow tentacles for sport, lol...
No good endings...
Nihilism to the end...

That is if you care about the githiyanki. None of my three characters would have become a mindflayer for the githiyanki. Two of them would not have agreed even if the world burned.

That being said, it is heavily hinted that anybody of merit can lead the revolution against Vlaakith. The idea of Orpheus has always been stronger than the person Orpheus. And Lae'zel seems to be doing a commendable job.

I thought a mindflayer Tav do get a suicide option. Not sure though. I thought Lae'zel leaves you as a mindflayer, though. Regardless, you have earned special treatment seven times over with your self-sacrifice.

That maybe... And yet, as a leader I feel bad for asking others to do what I will not be able to do myself. It is a matter of honor.

Personally I think there's a lot of value in utilising these "no-win" scenarios: Where whatever you choose you have to sacrifice something.

It lends the choice(s) a lot more gravity when there is no perfect outcome where everybody lives & nothing is lost.

Reminds me a little (in a very good way) of the original Mass Effect; where one of your team has to be sacrificed, & you gotta make the hard choice of which one it is.

For me it would be a lesser game if it didn't force you to make that choice.
