Right now I usually do Astarion as a Rogue-Thief 4 and Bard-Swords 8. This seems to create a nice blend between utility and function as a damage dealer.
How about 4 warriors called Micky, Davy, Michael and Peter who carry around Lutes and try to charm their way into everything but only spec into Bard in Act 3?
You could also go with a Metal band by making 4 Bard/Barbarian. Probably works best for some of the more ragey-metal variants.
Just have any 2 out of these 3 A Monk, a Great weapon master character, a dual cross bow character, then the other 2 in the party can really be whatever (tho a full Wizard makes your life easier, lots of several enemy fights where blizzard really helps)
In act 3 the GWM and the Crossbow will carry enough to have 2 Meh classes.
My current run is a (Barbarian 6, thief 4, fighter 2) a (Thief 4, Ranger 5, fighter 3) and the last 2 is a full wizard and a full Warlock.
The GWM can be Paladin (5 Paladin, 5 warlock, 2 fighter) or 12 fighter. (or any other version you come up with yourself)
The dual crossbow character can also switch some points around and get the slashing flurry from sword bard in there for even more damage.
I just can't see myself every not having some of the really high dmg classes in my party.
At least i managed to prevent myself from putting a monk this time.. Out of 6 playthroughs and this is the only one without a monk.
