Given that Swen said about one of the games: "Different but familiar"
Hopefully they'll apply what they've learned to improve combat by a lot compared to their last aRPG (Divinity 2: Ego Draconis) and they keep the interactivity with the world which was so great in BG3 and the DOS games.
Squeal Todd Howard squeal
True as well. Though I think through the success of BG3 you're going to see a resurgence in the coming years.
That said, if they make an aRPG because of the right reasons: wanting to do something new and fresh and not "because everyone is doing it", then I'm game for it.
Which is fine, really, I don't have a grudge against real-time games or anything, but studios having a 'niche' they specialize in is fine.
Larian are good at making turn-based RPGs, I would expect them to continue doing so.
No, thanks; real-time is kinda stressful sometimes.
That's one of the reasons I love "Fallout 4": you can slow-down the action and make some choices using the VATS system.
If Larian's gonna change up what they make, I'd give a left-bodypart for a sci-fi RPG set in a retro universe (Jetsons, Futurama) with a bombastic space opera plotline.
Now that's a game I'd love to play.
Think "Starfield"
I'd sacrifice entire villages to the Volcano Gods for that game!
In my experience RTwP just turns into turn-based anyway in everything but trivial combat encounters with how often you're spamming pause to give orders.
I don't have any objection to real-time, as I said, but IMO just go one way or the other- make a turn-based RPG or an action RPG, but hybrid systems don't work very well for me.
But they made 3 action games first then a strategy one before they started with turn-based. So I do expect them to continue to experiment with different gameplay styles in the future.
