What genre of fantasy would you put this game in?
High fantasy maybe?

It's dnd. So yes it's high fantasy.

There is some D&D stuff that's not high fantasy- Ravenloft and Dark Sun leap to mind- but the Forgotten Realms is 100% a high fantasy setting, agreed.

I think technically high fantasy just requires a non-Earth setting? But I know what you mean.

It tends to have a much higher amount of magic spread about and tends to have more lofty ideals in the story which tends to have a happier ending (or least the potential for it)

Dark fantasy tends to have much darker themes & subject matter.
It also tends to have more morally grey or dark endings.
(as such is aimed a lot more at adult audiences, think conan or the witcher as dark fantasy vs lord of the rings as high fantasy)

For instance many D&D settings could be considered high fantasy (like the drizzet novels & baldir's gate 3).
Others like ravenloft and especially the old dark sun setting tend to fall much more into what would be considered dark fantasy.

There are also a couple older settings they don't really touch anymore that fall in between like dragon lance.

It kinda depends - I think the traditional split was just high/low where low fantasy is something like Arthurian stories with Merlin and high fantasy has a whole new setting.

But yeah now that there's enough fantasy I guess high fantasy is more for traditional high fantasy (like LotR or Narnia type stuff) to contrast with newer subgenres
I would put it in D&D-fantasy....but I guess my personal "categories" haven't caught on yet...:P

There is a flying elephant detective with a hat, a monocle and a pipe, so it's definitely high as ♥♥♥♥ fantasy.

You’ve chalked up nearly 300 hours in game, so clearly it did something right.
