Long story short without cheese, great weapon master w/ +advantage, and sharpshooter are the best not long rest dps, max your attack bonus via buffs/items and raw str/dex, outside of that smite spam/rest and unloading fireball/lightning bolts.
Hold person is probably the largest dps increase in the game on anything you can land it on.
Mongo mode of Frenzy Zerker + Battlemaster fighter will pretty much merc anything.
If you wanna hulk/mash your way through zerker/bm GWM + thief/fighter with sharpshooter and dual handcrossbows + a Pally + life cleric/lore bard 1 with the sword that adds +1d4 to bless just = win.
If you wanna lob some wizzy spells just put the 17 int hat on someone and use scrolls.
The trick is to not fight on their terms. Your best bet is to head back up the stairs when combat starts. Shadowheart starts way in front, but she should have Dimension Door unless you've respecced her. Moving back will create a choke point at the foot of the stairs. That's where you drop mobility-impeding spells like Hunger of Hadar, Sleet Storm, Spike Growth, etc. Then pour on the AoE damage as they try to get through.
This is what I have always done.
Party:
1. Lae'zel 12th Level BM
(3 attacks x 2 (or more if using Elixir of Bloodlust))
2. Astarion 10th Level Sword Bard / 2nd Level Fighter.
(2 attacks x 2 (Slashing Flourish) x 2)
3. SH 12th Level Light Cleric
4. Tav 12th Level Wizard
(2 or 3 Icestorms that all debuff targets with Radiating Orb / Encrusted Frost)
- Shovel
- Water Elemental

As long as you have decent Initiative Items and a Haste Spore bomb, the fight is trivial.
A monk is also great and can stun multiple targets 1st turn and then mop up next turn.
There are wizard spells at level 12 that should turn this into an easy fight. Globe of invulnerability can protect your whole party and you can output a lot of damage from within using chain lightning, disintegrate, sunbeam, and several others. Dominate person would also be helpful to help turn the tables.
Casting hunger of hadar also works well if you have a warlock or high level bard in the party.
I typically do this fight around level 9 or 10 and mainly use ice storm on Viconia and then cast light or just attack and break the concentration of darkness casters. Haste potions also help to double damage output for your party while not requiring concentration to keep that effect going.
Position you party back by the stairs, running into the middle is just walking into the jaws of the trap that is set for you.
Fair. But he might not have that.
Anything that puts down lots of it (especially persistent aoe) will make the fight (as well as a lot of others throughout the game) a lot easier.
I also don't know why you'd be struggling that late. The only thing I can think of is that you were multiclassing too much. A lot of people overuse multiclassing.
I disagree that Barbarians are weak as well. They have some of the highest damage output and health in the game by Act 3. I have noticed that people tend to use Berserker Barbarian only with melee weapons, when that subclass is most optimal with throwing weapons. For a melee Barbarian you want to go Wild Heart for the most damage. BG3 is entirely about action economy as well, so any class that gets a bonus action through something like the Great Weapon Master feat is never bad.
As for your Bard, College of Lore isn't weak, but unless you're going for an RP build College of Swords just beats the other two by a country mile. Pick up Two-Weapon fighting from the subclass and the Dual Wield feat and you will do so much damage with those blade flourishes. People often dip into Bard for those blade flourishes alone. I don't really know why you're using a Halbred, but maybe I'm missing something there.
