Main Menu loading...?
So...okay...my computer is pretty robust, I'm using a decent SSD...but the main menu for this game takes forever to load. I've had relationships that didn't last as long as it takes the main menu to load.

I get that not every game loads content the same time/way, but...this is just the main menu. Can the robust full-loading of the game engine (or whatever they're doing) wait until I've clicked on a menu option? Or something?

What mods are you using? What are your specs?

I have one mod that affects the camera; it lets you look up. And two other mods required to make it work, I guess.

As for specs:

OS: Windows 11
Processor: 13th Gen Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-13700F 2.10 GHz
Installed RAM: 32.0 GB (31.8 GB usable)
SDD: Kingston SNV2s2000g

I have a pretty crappy PC with a crappy old SSD and the game loads in 10 15 sec.

Either its your PC or you're playing with mods

It's not mods; this was a problem from day 1.
I have three mods now (cuz two were required for the one I really wanted, which was a camera tweak that allows me to look up. (You have no idea how much that changes the game until you've done it.)
But I didn't start with any, and it was still an issue.

Heh, bit of a weird flex to say that you got dumped quicker than the game loads :steammocking:

The question is what *you* perceive as "forever to load". I can't say that I think the loading is particularly excessive... I get ~30 secs from click on "start game" (the first start of the day) to the "surface view" + 5 secs or so until the buttons appear (yes, with a stop watch, not "feels like"). Not very much different than other (3D) games. So how long is it for you?

I've just seen your other replay. Not sure if its because of windows 11, never had 11 installed (doubt its the reason )

Did you change any settings in the bios ? Like overcloking or ram frequency ?

Is your SSD full or close to being full ? Do you have another SSD in your PC ? If yes, you could always transfer BG3 to the other SSD and see if it'll make any difference

Damn i might try that mod, could you link to it or tell me what its called ?
Ty!

Who says I didn't do the dumping? :steammocking:

I'm not talking about how it feels.
I'm talking "multiple minutes", here. And a quick Google search can tell you that I'm getting off light; some people have left the game overnight, only to discover in the morning that the game still hasn't loaded.

As I said, it can be multiple minutes just to get to the main menu.

That said, tho, I think I've found a few things that have shortened the load time.
I couldn't follow some of the advice--they said to do things to things that aren't there, like deleting cache folders and stuff; their drive paths often included folders that just didn't exist for my game--but I found a few hints that have helped.

- Run the game from the executable without going through Steam.
The effect this had was small but noticeable.
- Use Vulkan instead of DX11.
I would have done this already, but the game kept crashing if I did; this appears to have been fixed.

The load time still seems a little excessive, but not egregiously excessive, anymore.

No.

Is your SSD full or close to being full ?

Not unless you consider 500 gigs "close to being full", no.

Do you have another SSD in your PC ?

I do not.

It's on Nexus...it's called "Native Camera Tweaks", and you need both "LSLib/Divine Tool" and "NativeModeLoader" to use it. (One of those will say it's "required" to install some third-party app that has nothing to do with the game at all, some sort of teaching software, IIRC; ignore it.)
LINK: https://www.nexusmods.com/baldursgate3/mods/945
And there are, of course, links to the other two required mods on that page.

Fair warning, there will be clipping issues cuz the game wasn't designed for this; the native camera avoids those parts of the ground automatically.
That said, battles look so much more cinematic this way; being able to see the whole battlefield at eye-level instead of from above is like something out of a movie.

Sorry, out of ideas. I just noticed you didn't mention what GPU you got.

Maybe add that bit in your first replay. Hope someone who is more knowledgeable comes around and is able to help you!

Thanks for linking the mod. I'll check it out for sure. Ty

You're right; I didn't. Ewps.
Windows 11 puts this kind of information all over the place instead of just in one place; it's easy to forget something and difficult to find it.

Thanks for linking the mod. I'll check it out for sure. Ty

No problem. :kenahappy:

Oh no, to be clear - I meant me! I was about to say "it takes around..." and an estimate how many seconds based on "the feeling" but wanted a more or less exact number because I guessed I would have been wrong (it feels less than thirty secs because I don't stare at the loading screen until it's done).

Minutes - no matter how many - is really strange, your PC should be way faster, I think (I have also W11, so that's not a factor). I would have said that a huge number of save files may slow it down a little (I do have ...a lot... of saves), but since it happens for you since the beginning as you said that can't be it anyway (and then certainly not so much).

Sadly I can't offer any more lame ideas that you haven't already tried. Maybe try writing to Larians support (they too might not be able to help, but it can't hurt either I guess)?

In that particular case, you betcha. :spacefiregrenade:

Oh. Okay, clarification accepted.

You understand my own confusion, then, indeed.

As I said, switching to Vulkan helped a little; not a lot, but some.
I wasn't using it before because I'd tried it and the game kept crashing, but it's working now, so I shan't complain.

I could, I s'pose.
I keep forgetting that not every game studio will read the Steam forums. Some do.
Ah, well. Thanks, either way.
