BG3 is a classical CRPG with some quality of life upgrades, very pretty graphics, and a focus on slow, deliberate storytelling in a fantasy setting. If you're into slow-paced story heavy games without a lot of action, where it's more about strategy than about who can blow who's car up first, then pick BG3.
But ... yes, as stated above, BG3 is a true CRPG, and Cyberpunk isn't, and I would argue is just barely an ARPG. Yeah, you can distribute V's skill points into three skill trees of techie stuff, software hacking, and combat. There are cyber-ware enhancements you can purchase. You can have some "Deus Ex" level interactions with NPCs, but they don't seem very deep. Bearing in mind, I haven't played it, but this is what I saw from the gameplay trailer.
Was the OP arguing that Cyberpunk is an RPG? Their question is which is the better game.
My opinion as someone whose first love in games is ALWAYS RPGs... Cyberpunk is the better game. It just is. Now are they comparable? No. But as games if you were to break down the individual characteristics that make a good game in general yes Cyberpunk is the better game.
lol it's like the people who called Death Stranding a walking simulator. For those people I feel sorry for you but that's a "You" problem and I feel bad for you. That was one of the few games that actually moved me emotionally when I finished it (FFVI from back in the day is another that comes to mind).... and I am not an emotional person.
And as we discussed earlier, once we get into the genre question of "what makes a good RPG" - bearing in mind for me this is my personal preference - "ARPGs" are the kind of RPG I like less. This is why I wasn't crazy about Mass Effect, or Witcher, or now CP2077. I don't hate action games, I will play them, and I find some ARPGs to my taste - only reason I haven't played Diablo 4 yet is ... "reasons" but I liked Diablo 3 ... just those didn't click for me.
In reality, I suspect I might like CP2077 once I stop trying to fit it into a genre I prefer, but again, I just haven't gotten it yet. I LOVE vehicles in games and I gotta tell you Unreal Tournament letting me fly around in spaceships or ride around in tanks strafing the enemy ... tasty. Another thing holding me back is people saying it wasn't "ready for prime time" until, well, now, due to bugs and other problems. I see people here saying still to avoid it UNLESS you get the Phantom Liberty DLC.
Sort of reminds me of folks who say ... "Play Solasta. But ONLY IF you get Palace of Ice DLC and Unfinished Business Mod."
On one last point, I think BG3 has a lot of emotional moments that hit me in the feels, and what I like about that "You're Not in This Alone"/"See" youtube video I posted from Lorphic Studios earlier, is that it captures a lot of those moments.
Personally i really love the freedom and encouraged creativity in BG3's gameplay, but as an experience Cyberpunk is just something else and the world and it's characters are on a level that only The Witcher 3 and Red Dead Redemption 2 have managed to reach.
Lmao friend, you know nothing about Cyberpunk 2077. The story is great, unlike in Baldurs Gate i genuinely shed a tear more than one time, the side characters are just amazing and the story is dramatic, also a bit more original than just saving the world. Baldurs Gate 3 has a good story, but i find some companions half-baked (Minthara for example) and its just not as emotional, Cyberpunk simply has a better one. People just diminish Cyberpunk because of bugs at the start.
I especially liked the part where he considers the story of 2077 "more than original". Perhaps I'm just old but thats one of those stories I've seen a couple of times in my lifetime.
Old man yelling at cloud moment.
